File Synchronization Software


I am looking for software to sync files from my server to my other devices. Here is what i want to do.

1.) Sync all files from a specific folder on a server to a specific folder on a few desktops. If a file is changed on the server, the change is synced. If the file is added on the client side, upload it to the server. If a file is deleted on the client, no change is made on the server.

2.) All of my music on my server is stored in /root dir/artist name/title name/filename. I would like to be able to tag specific title names/artists/songs on the server to be synced with my mobile phone. Assuming that all of the music files are tagged properly, the best solution would be a program that would read id3 tags and use them for selection criteria.

3.) Videos are stored in /root dir/video name/filename. I would like the ability to select certain videos to be synced with my phone. Once again, the same concept of selecting certain videos to be synced instead of the entire video folder is the goal.

4.) A sync program that has a compatible client on linux/win/android.

I am sure other people have had this problem with only syncing certain folder with a mobile device instead of an entire collection. Most (99.99%) of all server have more storage than a mobile phone.

I can configure my network to allow syncing from public addresses to take care of the mobility part.

Any programs that are out there that can meet these needs would be great, commercial or free. Unfortunately, smb, ftp, http, rss, etc cannot easily meet all of these demands without quite a bit of scripting.


Password protection is a must, encryption is a major bonus.
