I received an e-mail with an attachment. The attachment wouldn't open, so I saved it to Desktop so I could access "Properties" and use the "Open With" option. I tried several programs to try and open it, but no luck. I gave up on the file, deleted the e-mail it came from, and I went to delete it from the desktop, but it won't allow me. I get an error window saying, "Cannot delete file, cannot read from the source file or disk".

How can I get rid of this file that's on my desktop? I don't see a file extension, and it looks like it's "0" in size.

    Try this:
    Download - Pocket KillBox.

Run Pocket Killbox by doubleclicking on killbox.exe
Choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click Delete Selected Temp Files.
Then after it deletes the files click the Exit (Save Settings) button.
NOTE: Pocket Killbox will only list the added files it is able to find on the system. So when you do the below, if some files do not show in the list after pasting them in, just continue.

    Select:

    * Delete on Reboot
    * then Click on the All Files button.
    * Please copy the file path to the clipboard by highlighting it and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
    * Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt.

If you receive a PendingFileRenameOperations prompt, just click OK to continue (But please let me know if you receive this message!).

If Killbox does not reboot just reboot your PC yourself.

Also two other options to try

    1. MoveOnBoot this one, once you dragNdrop the file or browse for its location, deletes the file on reboot, so any applications that have locked the file are not running so cannot lock it before deletion.. my fav!
    2. Unlocker

When I opened the Properties window, that was it. Nothing to do with security, and nothing to do with "owner tab" under advance. Looked like as if I was missing the entire area that the instructions said to click on.
    Thanks anyways!

Moveonboot, I tried to delete, that didn't work, I even tried to rename it, that didn't work either. It just keeps saying that it cannot read from the source disk or file.

    Trying Unlocker right now.
Edited to add, that Unlocker worked! The program told me that it wasn't actually locked, but it could help me. I chose "Delete" from the drop down list, and poof, it was gone! Yay!
    THANKS EVER SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!
