Files and Folders locked in Read Only mode (Logs Attached)

I'm preparing to upgrade to Windows 7 from Win XP. I know the system is virus damaged from the past. I need to copy a number of files to DVD so that they can be re-installed after the upgrade. Unfortunately the folders are locked in Read Only mode. Every attempt to move or copy them has failed. The files represent untold hours of work so I hate to just write them off and delete them but I'm running out of options here. If I can manage just to copy off those files I'll cheerfully reformat the drive.

My system was previously running PC Tools Antivirus.

I have run the various virus scans as instructed in the other thread.

Tried the Attrib command and never could get it to work.

After going through the virus removal steps in the other thread I ran the Windows repair tool downloaded from this site. Checkdisk found a 'corrupt attributes file' which it deleted and then repair tool reset permissions and attributes. I can access the files now. I am presently burning them to disk and getting ready to format the hard drive. Thanks much for the help. I've registered Malwarebytes - and cancelled my sub to PC Tools since it scans daily and missed everything that Malwarebytes caught. Great product, I will tell my friends.
