    My Tattoons/Antivirus Pro System/Fast Browser Search malware

    For a while now my computer has been running slow, especially at start-up. IE was having a lot of errors, so an IT friend suggested I download FF and use it instead.

    A few weeks ago, I clicked on an application on Facebook called My Tattoons. Big mistake, I know. How could I resist the temptation to make my face look like a Frankenstein cartoon? :-o

    This resulted in Fast Browser Search being installed on both IE and FF. I have tried the uninstall procedure offered on the toolbar and it will not run. Yesterday things progressed when the Antivirus PRO System started innundating me with requests to update the antivirus software, IE started opening by itself and bringing up websites like viagra.com, adult.com, and porno.com, and most attempts by me to go to other websites were redirected to these as well.

    I read all of the other posts relating to the above issue and followed the malware removal guide, running all of the scans and completing the XP Cleaning Procedure. I was able to remove a boat load of files relating to the malware and things seemed to be running better, but last night I pulled up Firefox and the Fast Browser Search toolbar was still there.

    Since running all of the scans, I uninstalled Firefox and decided to just use IE, but it has since occurred to me that something is still wrong with my computer and the files are probably hiding and waiting to reinfect.

    Perhaps your review of my logs will bring up some other issues that I am unable to identify. I am new at this!

    I removed a few of your redundant threads and merged these two together. Please keep all of your replies in this thread.

    You need to put ComboFix directly on your desktop, not here:
    c:\documents and settings\Owner\My Documents\virus downloads\ComboFix.exe

    You need to triple the amount of RAM you have:
    Code:
    Total Physical Memory    384.00 MB
    Available Physical Memory    53.58 MB

    I am amazed that you can run this system at all.

    Once you have moved Combo to your desktop, then:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Driver::
    f9a3e25d94c224

    File::
    c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\f9a3e25d94c224.sys
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\temp\2840-1-2009-11-12-13-0-58-890
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\temp\dio1c.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\temp\mar14.tmp
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\temp\mar15.tmp

    * Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    * At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    * You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    If it asks you to overide the prvevious file with the same name, click YES.
    * Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v666/sUBs/CFScriptB-4.gif
    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    It took me a long time to get back to this. I hope you can still help me!

    I did everything you said except increase the RAM...have been planning on it but money is tight. Will do ASAP!!!!

    Seems to be running a little smoother but the Fast Browser Search and accompanying toolbars are still on my computer!

    Thank you so much for being patient with me!!!!!

    After 4 months, you should have updated all the programs and run them fresh. However, let's do this first:

    * Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
    If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    * Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    * If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    * Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below code box into it (make sure you scroll all the way down in the code box to get all lines selected ):
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    FF::
    FF - ProfilePath - c:\documents and settings\Owner\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\dtidexbi.default\
    FF - prefs.js: browser.search.defaulturl - hxxp://www.fastbrowsersearch.com/results/results.aspx?s=DEF&v=19&q=
    FF - prefs.js: keyword.URL - hxxp://www.fastbrowsersearch.com/results/results.aspx?s=NAUS&v=19&tid={76345F58-A089-083C-703D-69B58C6FE387}&q=

    * Follow the prompts.
    * When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    * I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Now, uninstall SAS and then download the latest version. Make sure you update MBAM and run them both.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\ComboFix.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
