Well it's about time, that I'm connected to internet at home. :) Though it is dialup, just a tad slow when at work it's zip-zip-zip. Now I can also see Star's, AbbySue's, and LadyLaraCroft's pics (via imageshack) at home - though I'm not sure that's a good thing either :p ;) For some reason imageshack is getting blocked ("Page can not be displayed" message) at work but I'm not gonna fuss about it.

Latest Window/IE updates are on. Using Ad-aware, Hijackthis, CWShredder, Avast (thanks for all the surveys in Software), will be installing Zonealarm, using Yahoo (and its browser) with parental control and all it's security/spam measures. So far I'm coming clean with only undesirable cookies. We're pretty careful on where we go.

I'm not sure if FireFox is worth the downloading effort. We'll see. Maybe download at work and put on CD and install that way. Any more input on FF from dialup users?

How often I'll come here in evenings and weekends, I don't know. Depends on wife and son and what they're doing, and any plans we have ..... that's real life. :)

Just to let y'all know I'm at least in the last 20th century when it comes to technology LOL :D and we still don't have a cell phone :D:D

Great on the net at home Ken :)

Imageshack could get blocked depending on your works security settings, My work have some strange settings to what sites I can view or not!!

yes I woudl say FF is worth the Dl and better still do all your DLing in work and zippy connection to save the DUN.

Cell phones... only mean you cannot escape, I prefer to leave mine at home at weekends, switched off!!

Welcome back Ken glad you could get your internet up! :) Dont know about the imageshack problem but try fixing your IE settings and see if that works.

FF has advantages in speed on my system for sure. When I was on dialup (nigrated to DSL) I found speeds of 23-38K the norm. I upgraded to a $6.99 modem and found 50K again was much better.

Last week I converted this box to Linux..... so speed is another story.

I do not think FF is that large a file. A dl manager would help also.

if your going to download FF, might try Opera as well. Been using opera for six or seven years, and like it real good.........and I started out using dialup, and it worked fine............wobbles

Thanks for all the info, I'll give FF and possibly Opera a try. Right now on my dialup I've been getting from 50 to 53.x on this modem which is pretty good -- it came with this emachine 'puter. I know a 56K modem doesn't ever get to 56, but what I'm getting is good. With Yahoo, it's a high-speed dialup, so there may have some tweaking occurring during the setup to get this as well.

I tried the Fresh Download manager when dl'ing Zonealarm and it aborted about half-way through. I'm looking for freeware so I'll peruse the files here at MG to see if there's something better. If there's one that y'all are familiar with let me know. :)

good stuff Ken, once you have installed FF, get this tweak tool for speeds etc http://fasterfox.mozdev.org/ all you need to do is from an open FF window click Install and the browser will install the plugin for you.
