    Hi and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Are you using the Windows Update site, or are you downloading the complete installer?

I went to Windows Update and ran it completely and it is going to install SP2 in a few minutes. Where are the files located? There is a small screen that is labeled at the top Installing updates, It is downloading now and will install when finished.

I have a problem with downloading something, I have no idea where it is!!!
If no one knows where the file is just tell me or don't comment. Anything on my computer that is "lost" needs to be deleted. If it can be found. I am not doing hide and seek with Microsoft. I will just discontinue the download and wait til the CD arrives. I have put it on before and had many problems with it. It is not worth it and hope microsoft hears that. They don't have any contact us place to comment and they usually don't listen.

Maybe you would prefer no one try to assist you at all?

Insomniacs question is legitimate. What you plan to do with the download does make a difference. For example: If your intention is to burn it to a disc it would essentially be a waste of time for later use as the download would be customized (unique) to the security patches, etc. you currently have installed.

Generally here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875364 full info but...

the SP2 SP can also be located in C:\Windows and in a i386 folder, as well as the C:\Windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$ folder but are hidden protected system files ( so untick the hidden options for folders and files in Folder Options ) to view, some various OEM PCs can have this location in the root of C:

SP2 is also very specific in how to install, you must not have any virii or malware on your PC and disable your virus checker... you must also update all your software and drivers, especially software to versions that are SP2 compatible as some versions especially of Norton are not.

but as Insomniac was pointing out if you have problems with the live WU update to SP2 its very wise to get the network full version as it is the same one that comes on the CD ( all 270+mb of it ) and it is what I would have suggested too.

Thanks, I believe I will delete it and install the full version. But if it still gives me problems I will need to uninstall it fully and reinstall the sp1 that I have on now. Is that possible?

Order the SP2 disk (if still available) and slip stream it on to a fresh disk with XP SP1. Makes for a muuuuuuch smoother, quicker install. I tried the disk by itself with multible boot issues and the same again by down loading it from MS. The app to use is http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562. This forum will guide you. The name of the app is AutoStreamer.

AutoStreamer also available in Cherry Flavour.. OK just kidding but we also have it here as the Neowin links can sometimes die suddenly http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4444.html

also you only need to if you want to slipstream XP ( wether you have XP SP1 CD or XP RTM ) with SP2... do not need to slipstream SP1 as well as SP2 includes all the fixes SP1 had... but I agree Autostreamer is a fine app and well worth doing a slipstreamed copy, for the fact it saves a massive amount of time if you ever have to re-install again.

in a nutshell you can go from XP RTM to SP2.. without needing to instal SP1 in the middle.
