finnicky modem?

this is driving my brother buggy. maybe we can get a couple of ideas from smarter people. he has a broadband cable connection for his internet from comcast here in LA. sometime ago when he came home from work the message that a "network cable is unplugged" appeared on the computer, so no internet. unplugged the modem for a while to reset and everything fine again. as time went on this now happens everyday about 8am in the morning. when he gets home from work he just resets it again and all is well. he thought it could be the modem itself so he bought a new one and the same thing occurs. he has gotten in touch with comcast and they will come out, BUT, if they come out and look at it and say that the problem is not on their end they will charge him a hefty service call fee. should he maybe try replacing cables or other things before actually having to submit to the service man fix? any ideas greatly appreciated.

 

if the nic card is integrated into the motherboard, i would get a pci nic card and install onto a slot in the motherboard.
should fix it

 

thanx kjanz. we will look inside and maybe give that a shot before breaking down and calling in help from comcast. will let you know what happens. may help someone in the future

we have played around and think the cable hookup to the modem is the culprit. hooked a new cable up from comcast's outside connection directly to the modem and everything works great. gonna replace all the old cable today. just wanted to give you some feedback. thanx again.
