Thank you for tackling my problem caused by my recent actions.

Firefox on my XP Dell laptop is loading webpages very slooooowly.
My Internet connection is strong. (Both of my other computers, wired and wireless Internet, are working just fine.)

    Recent activity:
A couple of days ago I was downloading several different software programs in order to convert .wmv to mpeg2 or mpeg4.

I was also adding Firefox add ons such as Delicious and RSS. I have disabled mostly all of my add ons.

    Per your instructions:
I ran the cleaning procedure and rebooted and now Firefox launches two windows upon starting: one that checks and downloads updates and one that has my chosen "home" page..... Hmmmm. It never did that before.

Still is very slow in loading both of these browser windows.

Attached are my logs. Any insights, scoldings, etc are......welcomed.

    Thanks in advance!

Did you try removing or disabling all Add-ons and recent additions? Your problems may not be due to malware even though some malware was removed.

What happens if you disable all McAfee protection including the firewall?
    Does Internet Explorer work OK?
Does FireFox work okay in safe boot mode?

You did not download and use the current version of MGtools or SUPERAntiSpyware. You should have deleted your old copy of MGtools last time you were here. Thus please do the below.

    • Please uninstall your current version of SUPERAntiSpyware (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 12

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O18 - Protocol: qbwc - {FC598A64-626C-4447-85B8-53150405FD57} - mscoree.dll (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix to remove a bunch of malware files.
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment

Now run Ccleaner. Only use the Run Cleaner button. Do not run anything else on any other forms.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • the new SUPERAntiSpyware log
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now! Make sure you answer all of my questions.

Thanks so much for all of your detailed instructions. I hope I have completed them in the right order and correctly. Please let me know if I haven't....

    To answer your questions:
I downloaded IE7 and it won't run at all. It launches an empty browser and when I enter an address (www.yahoo.com) in the address bar, it gives me an error message that "www.yahoo.com is unavailable". (I can see that my DSL connection is just fine.)
Firefox did not work OK in Safe Mode.
I disabled all FF Add-ons and Apps and that released the hanging up! But I cannot get any sound when I try to view a video online. My mute button is unresponsive and so are my volume buttons on my laptop....

Attached are the new logs you requested. Thanks again so much for your help!
    Sue

You are not quite stating your problem correctly. You have IE7 already installed and it does run. You are just having a problem browsing/connecting with it. You need to check your settings. I suggest posting in the Networking Forum

Not sure what you mean by "hanging up" but if you mean that disabling the add-ons and your protection software allows FireFox to work properly so that you can surf, then again this is not a malware issue. You need to post in either the Networking or Software Forum to either setup your network connections properly or to setup your software (including your firewall) to all things to work. If you are not allowing iexplore.exe and firefox.exe to pass thru your firewall, you will not be able to browser.

Also not a topic for this forum. Try the Software Forum.

Your logs are clean but it looks like you have have some kind of installation or uninstall issue going on since I see the below process running:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\msiexec.exe

This is Microsoft Installer and it should not normally be running unless you are installing or uninstalling something. If it is always running, an install or uninstall is incomplete and possibly causing a problem. This is also a topic for the Software Forum.

What is the below doing? Is it taking up your network connections bandwidth sharing large video files?
    O23 - Service: FlipShare Service - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Flip Video\FlipShare\FlipShareService.exe

And thanks so much again! Chaslang. I will post these issues you suggested to the Software forum. A appreciate all the time you took to check my files and troubleshoot.

The Flipshare.exe program that was using up bandwidth was a program for the Flip Video. I thought I had installed it completely but you are right that it is not finished installation and was looking for the final step so it was still running.
