Okay as you may or may not know Mozilla Firefox2.0 is being released tomorrow. Just for interest I would like to know what web browser you are currently using, why? And are you are experiencing any problems?
I'm using Firefox, because Firefox allowed tabbed browsing since around 2004 where as IE only did it now and no problems so far.

    Firefox.

Might wait with updating for a little while though... I hate it when none of my extensions work anymore... :)

Why I use Firefox? Er. It is good... :D

I had some problems with IE, couldn't get Java to work properly, so a friend suggested I tried Firefox till we'd found a solution. He was quite sure I'd be hooked on it long before we solved the problem, and he was right... Took me about 4-5 hours to be totally convinced. Tabbed browsing is very handy, but I also like the flexibility the extensions give me. Ad blocker and pop-up blocker, paste and go, the spellchecker (when I renember to use it... :p ) and a few more. The copy image location is very handy as well. And I've also found an extension which allows me to open a page in an IE tab in Firefox, so I can go to pages with sloppy coding without having to change browser! And set it to remember to always open that page in IE.

And, I am still waiting for my paycheck, Mozilla!

    :D

IE mainly as I have had no issues with it, usability or security wise.

But do have installed Firefox, Flock ( which I prefer over Firefox ) and Opera, just to keep current with each for test and diagnostic purposes.

Firefox, man i couldn't live without tabbed browsing. I am a web designer so i have the firefox extension view in IE that comes in handy while designing. I'm gonna start a new thread on what Firefox/IE extensions everyone uses. Check it out.

I'm using FF2.0 right now. It's a peppy little bugger. Opera has been my favorite for years and then FF and never IE. Now I'd put FF2 and IE7 in a dead heat wiith Opera about half a length back. This is great because we've now got 3 damn good browsers in a browser war and that's a war we all win!

Thanks for the heads up on the 2.0! I downloaded it, and it is faster than 1.5. Extensions don't bother me as I use very few.:)

    Just a question...
I duel boot XP Pro with 98SE.

Although I'm good to upgrade XP to IE7...
Microshaft has basically whacked any and all support, upgrade compatibility for 98SE.
Firefox 2.0 seems to advert a wide compatibility platform.
    Would that include 98SE?

From, this, yes, 98 works great with it.

Firefox 3.0 will not, since it will be using a non Mork style bookmarking scheme, and a few other items, like sqlite.

Maxthon on top of Internet Explorer. I dont know why, although I like Firefox and use it on and off, I just cant get used to the tabs and the look and feel.

I agree with Major Attitude. I use Maxthon and IE7 (which by the way I'm rather impressed with once I downloaded the registry hack to make the menu bar appear on top of IE7, registry hack downloaded from Major Geeks). Have Firefox and use it only occassionally due to the fact it has a tendency to be a resouce hog. Hopefully the developers of FF have addressed the resource issue in version 2.

I switched to firefox a while ago and have stuck with it ever since. I started using FF2 when they came out with Release Candidate 2. Also I do not use any extensions, and I use the default theme, but then again, I'm a simple person.

I do agree with Major Attitude. On one aspect. I'm quite use to FF for a VERY LONG TIME. Since the Phoenix days. I've used others, IE, netscape (before IE), AOL (beta tester), Opera (since version 1.0(beta tester)), a few others. I just got use to useing FF.

What is that aspect? Once one gets used to something, they don't like changes.

That seems about right. They do bitch a little too much about the install of IE7 tho. FF2 downloads and installs easier, but this is a bit overblown:
14mb is not giant and I have no idea what this reboot of forever is. Im pretty sure earlier versions of IE were around 25mb if I remember right and those were the pre-broadband days.

Overall I mostly agree with the whole comparison tho.

I have to agree, its not a "giant" download.

I have seen some instances of IE7 taking a VERY LOOOOONG time to install. But, those particular computers were a number of years old. At the end, they worked great. :)

I just installed IE, and the downloading part wasn't long at all, it was the damn set up! 10mins it at least.

    hi theefool,
is it possible to install FF 2.0 without losing the previous version? I can already see there are some people having trouble with the new version, and it's always nice with upgrades to be able to back up if they cause too much trouble.

I disagree, 14mb is a giant download. Not all people have access to broadband internet (like us South Africans who have to pay through our noses for broadband) also with IE7 connecting to the M$ server it takes an unnecessarily long time to install. Overall FF2.0 is better than IE7 and I predict that FF2.0 will eat into IE market share even more mostly due to the slow response time to security issues compared to FF2.0 and the amount of customizability that FF2.0 has.

I'm using both and like both a lot. Massive improvements in IE7 and even a few things that Firefox could learn from (multiple homepages springs to mind).

Have found that IE7 has some issues authenticating some sites either taking ages to OK them thanks to the anti-phishing tool checking Microsofts list rather than a local list or pages just not loading because of security issues.

FF2 is the clear winner for me (slightly better at almost everything) but both browsers are very impressive. Glad to see Microsoft have finally developed a decent browser too, anything that makes my life easier.

Don't know if it's just me, but TOR & firefox 2.0 Final gives hard time It hangs in memory and doesn't close although have learned that the TOR button plug-in might be the cause, but tested also with out plug-in and seems Firefox has some problems after Java usage also.

Checked on IE7 looks nice with little changes like dropping address bar little lower and toolbars one line up. Browser with multible homepages? Don't like that. So I see nothing Firefox should learn.

I am although planning to drop FireFox & IE completly in future since Opera is much better browser I think than either of these.

There are two options Backupfox and Mozbackup. I have tried both and prefer Backupfox.

Backupfox saves every variable of the program and inserts it when you restore it. For example it backs up the bookmarks, history, download history, cash, extensions in the version they were in. It does the same for Thunderbird as well.

Mozbackup does a good job, but tries to be compatible with too many programs hens the files are big and you have to install the program.

I used both programs, but just use Backupfox now and save a profile every two days to make sure I won’t loose my favorites.

You can get the programs at.

    Backupfox

I am sure this has no bad code.

    Mozbackup

Not sure about bad code have only used it for three days. If you want to be sure you can get this from Firemonger.

I just had to throw this in, but personally, I probably won't update to IE 7 until they stop updating IE6... that and I just use Firefox, I'm real happy with the FF2 release.

I think this was covered in another FF thread, but I can't find it now...anyhow, you can use multiple homepages in FF2.0.
Just open your additional homepage(s) in a new tab(s), then go
    Tools>Options>Main>(Startup/Home Page)>Use Current Pages>OK

    (Sorry if redundant)

I still use it, I still love it, I still hate Internet Explorer!

Well looks like the general consensus is that FF is better. That's cool. Overall what I believe makes FF better is that it is Open Source. Therefore the response time is better. What IE/M$ is missing is that it takes a long time to make any changes (IE6 to IE7 took 4 or 5 years) FF3.0 is coming out sometime in Q2 of 2007. Now people say that IE7 is a big improvement. Yes I agree it is a big improvement on IE6 but not such an improvement on even FF1.5. FF2.0 completely out shines IE7. What M$ has is a lot of money, however money very rarely inspires passion.

Back to Multiple homepages for a moment. Since I use FF for my normal browsing and IE for music downloads it comes in handy being able to log into all the music stores at once so I can compaire prices easily. I had a few issues with the 'IE in Firefox' extension before people tell me that I could just use that ;-).

OK, so this is just good for me because I'm lazy... but that's my perogative ;-)

To be honest I love both. Did find it funny that the first page IE7 blocked for me due to 'not trusted, potentially phishing site' was one of the links off IE7's own add ons pages in Microsoft.com.

LOL that is a classic one there. Well done IE7:D
