firefox and IE launching really slow

Hi All,

I got a win XP dell Latitude D505 laptop with 512 MB RAM.

It takes about 1 minute to log on after username and password.

Also it takes a very long time to launch Internet Explorer (8.0) and Firefox 3.0.1.

Any ideas why this is?
I ran all of the anti virus and anti melware software including:
Adaware, SpyBot S&D, Antivirus.com (trend micro house call) highjackthis and fixed what I thought were bad elements, CA Computer Associates Anti Virus 8.1, CCleaner, MalwareBytes.

Any help would be great. Thanks everyone.

You could try upgrading your memory and run windows XP with atleast 1GB and your browsers wont be slow then.

 

You didn't state whether your have Spybot S&D installed. If that is the case, just know that the "immunization" of Spybot will not play well with IE 8.

Therefore if you do have Spybot installed, go the "immunize" and "undo" the immunization.
