Firefox bookmarks

For browsing through bookmarks I figured out that End and Home go to the bottom and top of the bookmark list but a Page Up/Page Down function doesn't seem to exist. I find this unbelievable (I've searched internet and Firefox help) since it definitely is needed when you want to browse a 400 bookmark list - which is what I have.

Also nested bookmark folders have sub folders of bookmarks intermixed with bookmarks, all sorted alphabetically which is terrible to find anything. I like the IE way of, for each nested level, folders are sorted at the top followed by sorted bookmarks. That way you can drill down for example by folder, folder, folder, bookmark which is WAY faster and makes more sense. Can Firefox be made this way? I've searched Firefox help and internet but can't find anything.

I don't have so many bookmarks now but i seem to remember that at the bottom of the bookmarks list on the right hand side is a small black arrow that allows you to scroll.

    Hi

What version of Firefox are you using and are you or do you navigate via the Bookmarks library?

Ya the small black arrow at the bottom is WAY too slow (when you've got hundreds in a folder) as is the mouse wheel.

I'm using Firefox version 3.6.13 on XP Pro sp3.

The bookmark library appears to work great! It has the scroll bar on the right which allows me to get to any bookmark quickly within a folder just like IE does. Thanx for mentioning this. I didn't know about it since it looks like it only appears under Organize Bookmarks which I thought was only used for organizing bookmarks (like in IE), not going to them.

    Hi

Yes the Library is a good way to manage bookmarks and open them I tend to use this way and have it minimised all the time until needed, I'm using Minefield beta aka Firefox 4, so its a tad different, but the Library does have the same pg down and pg up keypress options.

If I understand your question, the answer is yes, Firefox Bookmark folders and bookmarks can be sorted the same way as in IE. Click on Bookmarks and then right click on a folder containing sub-folders and bookmarks and select Sort By Name.

Yes but I want that as the default for all folders, not have to do that to every one of my hundreds of folders and hundreds of subfolders under those.

I have and do use it, as already mentioned.

It is called SortPlaces and has probably more configuration options than you need.
It can arrange your bookmarks in just about any way you can imagine.

Since "organize bookmarks" can not be opened in a Tab, the drawback is
that you have to Alt+Tab back and forth between that window and the browsing window.

The "organize bookmarks" utility is referred to as the "places" applet or something
in some of the Firefox documentation.
