    HI,

I have Vista and for the past 72hrs Firefox and Chrome will not connect to the net even tough my network in connected and my PC wizard says "are no problems with my connection". I've run Spybot and Avast with no luck. I've downloaded TOR browser and I can connect with that but my kids use Firefox / chrome... Can you please advise as I'm completely clueless and a non geek :-(

Thanks for your advice. I did what you suggested but no luck. Is it helpful to know that we can connect no problem via the wireless network (iphone) so the connection is there, but our ethernet is refusing to connect Chrome & Firefox via the PC. Strangely the very obscure "Tor" browser works on our PC, but it's not exactly great for browsing and doesn't allow games etc. I'm stumped...

Open IE and select Tools,Internet Options. Under the Connections tab click the Lan Settings button. Is there anything listed under Proxy Server?

Hi tgell, nothing listed in Proxy settings. "Auto detect settings" box is ticked. Tbh we never use IE just, Chrome or Firefox. Have you ever heard of Tor? Surely as we can connect with Tor, the others should works too. Could this indicate a virus maybe ? I.m getting grief from the kids. - I guess I could uninstall/reinstall but all the booksmarks would be lost... willing to try it though. Unless you can think of anyth else ? Thanks for your input. Appreciated.

If you are not sure about a Virus, I would definitely go to the Malware Removal Forum and after reading the sticky post first, post your logs.

On my IE auto detect is unchecked. Can you connect with IE?

Problem solved. PC Tools Firewall was blocking all my browsers for some reason. When I disabled the firewall everth was fixed. Will d'load a different one. Worked well for 3 years... funny that. Phew, it was a bad week ! Thanks for your input and for posting advice..
