Firefox Got Blown Away

I've been hacked. Firefox yesterday. Not today. Won't load. I'm stuck using Chrome, which is very vulnerable.

I've been attacked many times, affecting browser, email program and emails, as well as sites. Usually, a "SEND" link won't work, or a field on a browser petition isn't there. Or an e-mail has been messed with.

But this is the worst yet. All the attacks have been aimed at political email and political sites. Nothing else. This really burns my bacon.

I have a file folder, and the icons, but Firefox won't load, even as an administrator. I'm afraid to reboot - could make bad changes permanent.

I could reinstall it, but would lose lots of stuff - bookmarks, Noscript settings and more. If possible, I'd like to return to an earlier version, but that failed. I have to be USING Firefox to do that. Properties sheet has no older versions.

An antivirus, ClamWin, isn't working either. Could be true for other programs. This just started today.

Is there some way I might repair Firefox?

If you get Firefox working again, make sure to create a Firefox account and this will allow you to sync settings, bookmarks, passwords (if you want), etc. and you won't lose them because they're stored on Mozilla's servers. If you, then, need to re-install Firefox, when you sign in to your FF account, everything will be there.

You do not need to sync to have things saved. I have never synced and when I install FF, all my settings are there because when I uninstall, I choose NOT to delete my profile.
I also backup my bookmarks to a USB stick every so often as a secondary archive.

FFX stores your bookmarks and everything else in a profile folder on your computer, details HERE. Syncing works like a dream if you use more than one computer and want the same bookmarks etc on all machines but, as plodr says, it isn't necessary for backup..

I use syncing when I have to re-install Firefox and I do use FF on two machines with multiple versions of Windows. It saves me a lot of time and frustration. Is it being advised against and why?

You don't need syncing when reinstalling either unless you've deleted your profile for some reason. Not advising against, just informing the OP it isn't necessary.

This has been when I've re-installed Windows. For instance, I had Win 10 Insider Preview and dumped it for Win 7 so, syncing was the best option. And as in the thread about Win 7 Update problems, I used WSUS.

I can now use Firefox, but with great difficulty. I have to diddle back and forth with Task Manager, deleting FF processes till I get a window. The problem still exists.

It's good to know I can save my Firefox settings and bookmarks, but does that also include my NoScript choices? I'd hate to start over with those.

Reading this thread carefully it seems you are posting in the wrong forum. Especially as you state you are still, even now, having serious problems with Firefox.
As plodr posted in the first reply, at post #2, you should be having your system checked by an expert in the Malware Removal Forum having first carried out the steps in the Read & Run Me First Guide
Everything else is probably a waste of time and none of the responses since will help until you first check your system is clean of any malware and it would have been better to have done that 8 days ago.
