Firefox - How Do You Restore History From Old Installation?

I've just been searching high & low for a solid answer to this but couldn't really find anything completely relevant to my situation. Basically, I had Firefox installed on an old drive (used to be the system drive), all the folders are still intact and I just want to take the history from these folders and add it into my new install on the new HDD. I already restored my bookmark backups but now I need the history. I've read that it's stored in a file called 'places.sqlite', so I tried replacing my current places file with the old one but still no history. Seems like swapping out files doesn't work...

What am I doing wrong? If the history is in that file, then there must be some way to make Firefox read it without having to do some serious tinkering. Hopefully someone can help, this is pretty important but I just can't find any concrete solutions...

    Thanks in advance.

Thanks, this is actually what I tried already (directly copying/replacing current Places.sqlite with old one) but it didn't work, I still had no history despite having the history file (about 80mb in size).

Edit: 1st time I tried it nothing happened. I just did it all again, and this time it decided to work. PCs LOL, too temperamental!

Looks like you will be out of luck as that file is the only one containing (among other things) the browsing history in the profile on the old HDD.
It could be that doing the earlier action around bookmarks has caused this issue.
It's an indication that backing up a profile fully, before moving to an new HDD, is always the safest option. Then when you install Firefox on a new system drive you use the saved Profile back up to restore the entire thing to that new installation.
I've used this program for years and it works a treat. Never failed me:

Cheers for the link, I'll grab it. I actually got everything back in the end. I just had to do the process twice (for whatever reason!).

Nice avatar BTW. Will we leave, will we stay? Things are still gonna be bad either way!
