Firefox issues

Firefox.exe is linked to missing report OLEAUT32.DLL:77, what can I do to get rid of this? I just downloaded Firefox and it won't let me open... please help. I'm not the smartest with computers and need assistance...

 

Need a wee bit more information.

What is your windows operating system? 98, ME,NT4, 2k, xp(home/pro), 2k3...etc (98 is the minimum requirements....)

You downloaded the latest official release? 1.06?

Also, do you have all windows updates through windows update?

Also, if you can give me the version number of OLEAUT32.DLL, it would be wonderful. This file should reside within c:\windows\system. Version number, and file size.

From a quick glance you "may" not have the correct dll, which probably can be "easily" fixed. More than likely firefox is calling a particular routine within that library that your version doesn't have. (best way I can describe this).

 

I am unsure if I have all the updates and I highly doubt it (Not my computer, having Linux issues on mine) All I found in there was an oleaut32.dll and oleaut32.001

 

Through explorer, rightclick on the dll in question, and select properties, then select the version tab, that should give me the version of that file.

I wish I knew a command line way through windows to display version numbers of files, since you use linux, and the linux world uses and loves command line ways of doing things.

For the particular windows box, I'd bring up IE, and click on the Tools menu, then select windows update.
