About a week ago, my friend received an automated update for Firefox, and now it says "Cannot connect to server www.firefox.com" etc. He is running Windows 7 on a Dell Inspiron. Netscape works okay. Anyone have this problem or know what might be going on? BTW, this is a new (couple of months old) computer, and the Dell helpcenter says "no internet connection detected" (he has a cable modem).

    Thanks for any input!

    Hi,
Tell us was it working before you have installed the update. If it was working then
go to add/remove programs and uninstall the update. It will work, and check.

If you find this info useful please mail me at <snip>

Uninstall was unsuccessful. He then uninstalled the entire program, but that didn't help. He tried to reinstall Firefox (fresh d/l from the website), and still got the same error: could not connect to the server (internet).

Further details: all these programs now no longer work - Apple Safari, Flock, uTorrent, Firefox, Dell Support Center (cannot detect internet connection).

Netscape works fine (as I said) and it seems that most other programs are unaffected. He does not use IE.

    Thanks for your input!

    Hi,

Brother, you can do here is can restore your system to a date prior installing
the firefox. Maybe it got infected by some virus, malware, or trojan, next best thing is you can do is format the entire system. and then install the fresh copy of the firefox, why all those softwares r not working?

please mail me if you find this info usefull.

    With love and regards,

Netscape what? Browser? It's dead; been dead for two years now. http://browser.netscape.com/

Yes, Netscape Navigator. It came with the computer when he bought it a couple of months back.

I've since run both adaware and spybot with no joy. Still have the same problem. And my friend can't find a restore point - I guess he never had it set up. I'm open to any ideas - he's on the verge of formatting his hard drive.
