    Hi

I have an issue for about a week where Firefox will open a new tab with games or free lotto etc.

Runned Spybot but still same issue. Also clear all cache, cookies, etc but still the same.

    Below are all my logs.

Any ideas or anything else needed let me know.

    Thanks

You should uninstall the below very old Java version which are security risks:
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v5.0
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v5.0
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java v6
IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java v6

Also you should uninstall Bandoo. See the below for why and instructions:

    http://deletemalware.blogspot.com/2011/09/remove-bandoo-uninstall-guide.html

If you no longer have Bandoo installed, the below should should help remove the remainders anyway. You did have the mentioned searchqu.com addon installed when you installed this junkware.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {ae07101b-46d4-4a98-af68-0333ea26e113} - (no file)
    O16 - DPF: {1ACECAFE-0016-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java2 Runtime Environment 1.6.0) - http://
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java2 Runtime Environment 1.6.0) - http://
    O23 - Service: Bandoo Coordinator - Unknown owner - C:\PROGRA~1\Bandoo\Bandoo.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: IEPro - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\internet explorer\plugins\IEpro.exe (file missing)
    O23 - Service: KService - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Kontiki\KService.exe (file missing)

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Please download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.
    • Right-click OTM.exe and select Run as administrator to run it.
    • Copy the lines from the below codebox to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C
(or, after highlighting, right-click and choose Copy): Do not include the word Code: which is just a title line of
      the code box
    Code:
    :Processes
    explorer.exe

    :Services
    Bandoo Coordinator
    IEPro
    KService
    :Files
    C:\Program Files\Bandoo
    C:\Program Files\internet explorer\plugins\IEpro.exe
    C:\Program Files\Kontiki
    C:\WINDOWS\Tasks\At1.job
    C:\WINDOWS\Temp\*.*
    C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\TEMP\*.*

    :Reg
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar]
    "{6E6E744E-4D20-4ce3-9A7A-26DFFFE22F68}"=-
    "{ae07101b-46d4-4a98-af68-0333ea26e113}"=-
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{8A96AF9E-4074-43b7-BEA3-87217BDA74C8}]
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [EmptyTemp]
    [start explorer]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large http://forums.majorgeeks.com/chaslang/images/MoveIt!.png button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles log
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

If still having problems with Firefox, then try the below reset to defaults to see if it helps:

    Reset Firefox to Defaults

    Hi chaslang

    Thanks for the help.

Done all as instructed, could not find any reference of Bandoo in IE, Firefox or Add/Remove programs, the 2 below were not listed when I runned analyse.exe, probably because I had already uninstalled the 2 IBM Java items

    O16 - DPF: {1ACECAFE-0016-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java2 Runtime Environment 1.6.0) - http://
    O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0016-0000-0000-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Java2 Runtime Environment 1.6.0) - http://

    Thanks

Okay just let me know. If still have problems, then let's get a new log from a new version of MGtools.

Now download the current version of MGtools and save it to your root folder. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

Run MGtools.exe ( Note: If using Vista or Win7, make sure UAC is still disabled. Also don't double click on it, use right click and select Run As Administrator )

    Now attach the below log:
    • C:\MGlogs.zip

There is nothing in your logs showing any malware. So I have to wonder it what you are experiencing is due to some other software you are running or due to sites you are accessing.

Is you problem only happening with Firefox?

    Hi

    Thanks for your time,

I did some test to determine if it happens with all browsers or just Firefox, I cleared all the option on Clear Recent History in Firefox, it happened again just after 10am GMT, before that I only had browsed 4 pages and only 3 open at the time, I was using most of the time Internet explorer, the pages I had open were Hotmail and gmail (all emails I open were safe nothing strange, like spam or links or anything), and also 1 internal page for work. Today the other page had open was Igoogle (page was closed at the time of the pop up).

I will test again tomorrow same idea, clear everything in Firefox and after leave it running, don't even open the Homepage.

If still happens next will be removing firefox all together, delete any folder were data could be stored and after reinstall again.

Also to add the strange thing is that only happens once per day.

Any time you run tests, only have ONE browser open. Do no have IE open if testing Firefox and vice versa. ;)

    Hi

I did another test with only IE open and just before 10am GMT the pop-up opened firefox as it's my default browser. I did a Disk Cleanup and I deleted all except Compress Old Files. Will test again, but looks like it's not a firefox problem but some type of spyware.

    Thanks again

It is starting to look like something that you are running by default ( and there is a heck of a lot ) is periodically opening your default browser to do something. I wonder if you simply rebooted your PC and never open any browser at all if some time later, it would still open up Firefox?

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.

Okay! Let me know if you are still having problems. The really was nothing else showing to fix. My next suggestion would have been to uninstall Firefox, delete a couple related folders and then reinstall.

You're welcome. If you find alll is good then complete the below.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Go back to step 4 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
