I just downloaded Firefox 29.0 and it had the menu button on the tabs bar on the right hand side originally, but all of a sudden it has disappeared.

Also I noticed there is no minimize and maximize or page close X button showing either. If I click where they should be they will close or minimize the page so they must be there just not showing. :confused

    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    Floyd

You might have clicked F10 by mistake.

This is one ugly beast - it almost looks like Chrome!

Floyd, I can't make it look like what you've got going. Have to go along with PSCO2007, un-install then re-install.

What?! You don't like those newly styled nicely curved tabs? They've fixed my mouse snagging on those old square sharp tab corners.

And what a relief, we only have to worry about choosing between the menu bar and the bookmarks toolbar. For other items we can wander around in the burger joint until we find what we're looking for.

Wonder why they didn't just throw everything, except the current tab, in the burger bin? Oh well, first release and all. They'll get it fixed up.

It looks like most of the browsers out there today are taking after chrome or using webkit engine.

I don't like it either. What is the point of an "update" that removes common buttons? I now don't have Forward, Back, Stop, or Reload capability. I don't care what other browser FF may now look like; I just want the buttons back.

Don't believe so. Developer has stated many times that he wants nothing to do Australis. It removes too many options and too much flexibility that make the browser useful for the user(s).

The Classic Theme Restorer will be heaven sent for Australis users, but it will break some things if a theme or a persona is installed. So it's the default theme or nothing.

It's easier to make Pale Moon look like Australis than the other way around, me thinks.

From my experience with Pale Moon, version 3.xx I iirc, it has been much more stable, smooth and generally faster than Fx.
While he has stayed on gecko 24ESR he has been back porting security from newer non-ESR releases and keeping the options that Mozilla has been chopping while keeping anything new that is useful. And fixing things that Mozilla coders didn't. Plus there are few additions of his own.

Mozilla has been slowly cutting away the functionality that made it a great browser for the sake of the Australis UI. The idea is to have it not only cross-platform but cross-device. Ends up as a plat-vice or a de-form.

Moonchild (Pale Moon) has stated several times in his forum that he will not adopt the Firefox (Australis) changes. I just cannot find his posts about that.

Using Fx 29 and Pale Moon browsers is a bit more confusing and cumbersome now as some Fx's buttons are located exactly on the opposite side, such as the Fx's *hamburger* button. It takes some time to get used to it and to find everything. There is an extension called Classic Theme Restorer that will restore many buttons to be movable again and lots of other features to make it look like previous Fx. I tried it out but it was way too overwhelming for me so I just uninstalled it. Since the addon bar was also removed I just installed The Addon Bar (restored) and that suited me fine.

Mozilla tells us that its browser is more customizable but IMHO that's not true because most buttons are fixed. Due to their changes over the last versions leading up to Australis I've had to add at least 4 extensions to make it work for me.

This is FF29 without the Classic Theme Restorer suggested by LauraR.

Forward, Back and Refresh are all there.
The Back button is always there; greyed out if you cannot go back, to see the Forward button, you must be able to go forward, so you have to go back at least one page.

Refresh and Stop are the same button that change depending on if a page is loaded or has finished loading.

Thanks all. I just solved the mystery. I went to the customize scree again and noticed on the lower left on that screen is an option to hide or show title bar. I had it hidden and that is where the "X" close window etc is located. I selected to show it and walla. problem solved.
    Thanks for your help.

Just want to say, that FF had the idea a bit back before google, and Chrome implemented first.

But, all browser vendors copy each other, so I personally just stick with what I like. Firefox Nightlies. Implement new features, break some stuff, go back a release, upgrade to a new version, hoping it fixes it, reading release notes, etc

  21. Thanks to the people on this thread. I hate this update, and I'm for sure going back to Pale Moon as I soon as I switch to a new computer.

The one thing I wish Firefox would borrow from Chrome is to make a Task Manager for the browser. That would really help.

Pale Moon will eventually switch to this version, but, I'm sure they will wait till all the bugs are fixed. :)

Not according to Moonchild, the developer.

  24. Thank you for sharing that welcome news, plodr.

I really think Pale Moon was already better than Firefox anyway before all this.

Is there any talk of adding a task manager to the Mozilla family of browsers?

Well, so far my experience has been mostly positive aside from the initial facepalm I did when I also exclaimed, "They've turned it into Chrome!?!"

Surfing "seems" to be a lot snappier and it's not having any "heart attacks" (as I like to call it -- freezing to the point that it'll throw up a "Not Responding" banner on top).

But I see in the image the original poster gave has Forecastfox in the address bar...Forcastfox is unsupported I thought?

As long as we're discussing FF. With the last ver of FF and it seems even worse in V29, has anyone else been having problems with FF not closing properly.
Many times but not always After I close FF, I get an error saying I can't open it again as it's already running.
I just go to my task manager and see in the process list it's still open. I delete the process and everything works OK again.

Not terrible but it is annoying.

Anybody have any ideas on ho to fix this?

If this is still there in ver. 29, (still using 28), go to the Help drop down menu and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If that fixes the shut down problem, then disable all of them and then Enable them one at a time until the problem returns.
Then you know that it is that add-on that is likely the problem.
It's also suggested (Mozilla Support) that you use the default Theme.
If none of that works, you should probably start a new thread.

May be I'm a little out of place on this one, but the new FF 29 really doesn't bother me at all.I'm not saying that those that don't like it are wrong, it just really doesn't bother me at all. To each his own, I guess that's what makes MGs such a great community.

I finally upgraded three days ago and was expecting something a little unpleasant, but instead I
immediately liked it. Maybe because I had already glanced over the new features, so it wasn't a
    complete surprise.
I like the new button placement and the way it works.
I particularly like the way the current tab stands out while the other tabs are still easy to read.

There aren't really that many changes to the interface.

A lot of changes occurred in Fx 29.0. Here's a link about it. http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2824649
    and this one: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2824433

Buttons are locked. But as said, there is the extension Classic Theme Restorer that can help you to move the buttons where you want them, also creating the addon bar etc.

I don't mind the new UI but installed The Addon Bar Restored extension.

Finally if you're happy or sad about the new UI submit your feedback but IMHO don't expect to see any changes: https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/

I've read quite a few people have the same problem as you have. So it's up to Mozilla to fix it, hopefully sooner rather than later.

The hotkey Ctrl+/ to display the Add-on bar no longer works :(

I didn't like version 29 at all and uninstalled it. It was supposed to be "intuitive" to use their description. For me, unskilled at the computer, that just meant I had to guess and learn by trial and error.

    Hi mjnc: Good to know.
The addon bar was removed so keyboard shortcut shouldn't work. With the extension The Addon Bar Restored the hotkey will work, it does for me.

Well, I was kind of forced into using firefox 29 as had some big troubles with downloading. Getting used to it; dragging things where I want them. I hate the navy blue menu at the top. I went to themes to try to change colors, but it just said"default theme" and there didn't seem a way to change anything. Does anyone know how I can change the colors? [it does seem faster]

In Tools -> Addons, click Get Addons. On the right, you'll see themes for FF that you can download and apply.

The developers got so wrapped up in designing the new interface, that they forgot to create
a Hotkey for the new Menu Button. rolleyes

There is no hotkey for the menu button, but I found the following trick.

If you drag the Search bar from the address toolbar into the (top) menu area,
you can use either Ctrl+K or Ctrl+E to access the Search bar which
then opens the Menu. Cool. :cool
