Firefox Version 89 - No Longer Can Tell If Window In Focus

    Windows 10, version 20H2
    Firefox version 89.0 (64 bit)

The following is a minor annoyance but I am curious.

In Windows 10, the window currently in focus can be noticed by looking at the top bar or equivalent which will be highlighted. For example, when Windows Explorer is in focus, the top bar is dark blue. When not in focus, the top bar is white.
Firefox used to work this way as well. However the latest version 89.0 seems to have dropped this feature. No way to look at a Firefox screen to determine whether it is in focus since the top bar never changes whether it is in focus or not.
Anyone else see this problem? Any way to fix this?

Do you mean the tab on the "active window" is a different color than all the other tabs?

I don't run that version; I use FF ESR so I don't have that "feature" yet.

I did find this. The new interface is called Proton UI
So apparently the active tab somehow pops out from the others.

I just saw a post about that on another forum. I'm glad you have it back to its old look.

That link is the most useful link I have seen in years. (At least I think so. I'll know for sure when I restart FF!)

IMHO the Proton interface that FF introduced in its version 89 sucks BIG TIME and I'm glad that I found the information in the link.

Oops! Forgot to include the fix:

    Try this:

To revert Firefox’s user interface from version 89 to version 88:

These instructions come from Sergey Tkachenko, the person who started Winaero.com in 2011.

    1. Open FF and type "about:config" into the address bar.
    2. Hit Enter and click on "I accept" the risk to continue.
    3. In the Search box, type "proton".
    4. Now disable the Proton UI in FF setting the following values to "false":

    browser.proton.enabled
    browser.proton.modals.enabled
    browser.proton.doorhangers.enabled
    browserproton.contextmenus.enabled

This will immediately restore the classic appearance of Firefox.

Thank you for this fix, my wife hates the new FF look and I was hoping for a way to make her happy. Maybe my ears will stop ringing when I get this done.

In addition to the items listed in #4 of my previous post, add this one (without the quotes):

    "browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.newNewtabExperience.enabled"

Are you talking about the "title bar"? It can be turned back on with right clicking on tab area, not on a tab. Then click customize toolbar. Then look at bottom left corner. A box to click to show title bar again. It will then show your system color when in focus.

No, we are talking about tabs not the title bar.
