Firefox won't let me play videos

For some reason I can't get webpages that have windows media player files on them to display the file. It says "you must install a missing plug-in" but when ever I click on that it says "plug-in not found." What do I do?

 

I was just wondering this myself. I ususally open IE to view them, but I'd rather just few them in firefox if possible.

 

What plug-ins to you have? And do you have a link as an example?

 

Well, I saw a news program about this place http://www.funnyplace.org/ and was curious to see what it was all about, but I get a message "click here to download plugin", but it says "no suitable plugins were found" so when i click manual install it takes me to windows media download center. But it's not that I don't have windows media player, as I said, it works fine in IE. I just assumed that it's because MS doesn't want to play nice with some one elses browser.

 

Did you go to Firefox's main plugin site here and download the WMP plugin?
That's where I installed my plugins, and everything works fine.

 

I just went there and it would allow me to download windows media player 9 but i already have it (I'm running windows ME) As I said, it works with IE, but for some reason not in firefox. Is there some setting I'm missing?

First time in my life that a knight came to my rescue. I followed the link and subsequent links and while some of it was confusing i ended up downloading the WMP plug in for Netscape, and bingo I can now waste more time on the web viewing burger King commercials etc. that I usually ignore when I'm watching TV.

You're welcome, always love it when I can solve a problem by just posting a link (because somebody else has already done all the work). Media player problems in Firefox are pretty common; bookmark that link, you may need it again.
