Firefox won't recognise Div X or Quicktime.

    Dear Anyone.

Must get fewer weirdnesses on this PC. Anyway.

I've got the latest versions of Quicktime and Div X installed, I know this, I've installed them myself. But when I go to a Quicktime or Div X site in Firefox, the sites tell me I don't have the software installed. So I try downloading the latest versions - and their installers tell me I've already GOT the latest versions installed and won't install anything else.

So why can't Firefox find either of them? Do I need a plug-in somewheres along the line, I know Firefox lives and breathes plug-ins for everything.

Or is there something dumbass I haven't thought of? I just downloaded the packages, installed them, restarted the PC and went back into Firefox to use them. Haven't tried them in any other browser, 'cos last time I used Internet Explorer I got a rather nasty virus on my hard drive (one of those spoof virus removal software ones that tells you you've got about a thousand viruses only their magical software can remove! I tried to get rid of it, it slammed the door of Windows in my face, took me 2 days with Linux to get rid of it...)

That's a sidetrack, sorry. The question is - why isn't Firefox recognising Quick Time or Div X when both are on my computer - Firefox 3.6.

    Yours hopefully

In Firefox, click Tools | Add-ons, then click the Plugins button - is there a Quicktime and/or DivX plugin, and are they enabled?

    Dear Pwillener.

Thannks - prob. solved, but with a slight puzzle. You see, when I downloaded the DivX stuff from the DivX main site in the first place and installed it, it didn't put any add-ons in the Tools/Plugins part of Firefox. But when I downloaded an older version from Brothersoft, and carefully DIDN'T let it update itself as an experiment, it DID put the plug-in in. I've got no explanation for that, except to say the Brothersoft version seems to work better with Firefox than the official website version.

No idea why, but the plug-in's there now. The Quicktime one WAS there, it just was turned off for some reason. Turned it on, it works fine.

Thanks for the 'heads up' on where the plug-ins were stored. Didn't know they were in Tools, thought they were something you had to access through 'About:plugins' or something like that and I don't like messing with the 'About' stuff incase I kill Firefox because I don't know what I'm doing (just CAN'T get the users these days, can you!)

    Yours respectfully
