Firefox + Zonealarm = Problem

I've installed ZoneAlarm (without the security suite) as suggested. When using Firefox i can browse for about 15 minutes, but then eventually Firefox will no longer connect to the internet. I have "allowed" and "remember"ed Firefox through ZoneAlarm. When this happens, I just shutdown ZoneAlarm and I can continue using Firefox. So, it seems there is some incompatibility with ZA and FF. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

    Hi:

I installed the latest ZoneAlarm Security Suite. I disabled the extras (antivirus etc).

Note: By default, ZA blocks IRC and the only way to change the default is to install the
full Security Suite trial then open ZA >IM Security >Settings tab >Advanced >Uncheck Block IRC >OK.

After the trial period the software reverts to a free software firewall only unless you buy.

I'm using a router and 2 other XP systems on my LAN.
I also use AntiVir (free) antivirus [resident/background], A-Squared (free) anti-malware, Spyware Terminator (free) [resident/background],
AdAware (free), SpyBot S&D (free), SpywareBlaster (free) [shield only] and Windows Defender (free). Firefox v2.0.0.3 is my default browser.

    No issues at all.

If I had the problem you have I'd uninstall ZA in Add/Remove, run CrapCleaner (free) > "Scan for Issues", then reinstall ZA with the full Suite.
Disable what you don't want (the items that terminate when the trial ends) and fix the IRC block if need be.
    Let the trial lapse.

    Happy trailz,

    Hi eiresurg:

I hope you get to read this.

I just had the current full version of the ZA Suite terminate at the end of its trial.
It did not behave as the previous version did and revert to the plain free firewall only type.

It just sits there awaiting a paid for serial number and telling me my system is at risk. Nice.

Since I use IRC and there is no switch to turn off the auto IRC block in the free version, I can’t use ZA free and have uninstalled the current version.

I have installed this free software firewall instead:
    Comodo Personal Firewall 2.4.18.184
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Comodo_Personal_Firewall_d5033.html

It doesn’t block IRC by default.
Comodo Firewall (free) User Manual http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/Comodo_Firewall_2.3_User_Guide.pdf

    Note:
In Comodo, if you have a LAN and want to allow file sharing etc, go to Tasks>Add/Remove/Modify a Zone>
Create a Zone (xxxLAN) with Start Point 192.168.x.100 and End Point 192.168.x.1xx
Then Tasks >Define a new Trusted Network >Select xxxLAN and ok it.
x = whatever you want or your router needs.

Or … you can just let the ZA trial lapse and see it works for you.

    Happy trailz,

i still had the same problem after running FF and ZA together just fine for a couple days. again, i was getting internet connectivity errors using FF w/ ZA. so, ironically, i too downloaded Comodo and haven't had a single problem (yet). fingers crossed. thanks for your input!
