Fireman/Firemen on the run ... for a good cause.

NOOSA: A 7400KM run across the US, ending in New York on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, is something firefighter Rob Frey expects he will never forget.

He hopes the run, with 14 other Australian firefighters and 15 from the US, will ensure the day almost 3000 people died, including 343 firefighters, is never forgotten.

Rob, from Sunrise Beach, is one of two Queensland firefighters who will join the Tour of Duty, leaving Los Angeles on the US west coast on August 11.
The Gympie Fire Station officer Rob said it was an ``absolute honour’’ to join the 30-day relay event, finishing with a run across Brooklyn Bridge into New York. The team will attend memorial ceremonies at the site of the World Trade Centre attacks.

``As Australian firefighters it’s the least we could do,’’ Rob said. ``We want to pay our respects by doing something difficult.
``The 411 emergency services workers who lost their lives at the World Trade Centre had to find insurmountable courage to go in there and they paid the ultimate sacrifice.
