Firewall disabled by virus/malware

    I have Windows Xp notebook. Somehow an internet virus disabled both my Windows Firewall and Onecare Firewall. Both are having red icons. When I try to enable Windows Onecare it always hangs. Whereas my Windows firewall is greyed for 'ON' option.

    I have done basic scanning etc as guided by you. I am attaching logs for them. Please help me getting my Firewalls ON.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    You are almost a year out of date with your copy of MGtools. You need to use what was given in the READ & RUN ME and not something you saved in July of 2009. Then attach a new log. Delete the old copy of MGlogs.zip first too and make sure that you shutdown any protection software before downloading and running MGtools.exe

    Thanks for prompt reply.

    I have deleted old MGtool exe and zip , downloaded fresh MGtool and ran it. I am attaching new log.

    Your logs do not show any signs of infection. You could just try uninstalling and then rebooting. Then reinstall to see if it helps. But personally, I would recommend better protection as mentioned in the below link:

    How to Protect yourself from malware!


    The only thing I see in your logs which I don't recommend have on your PC is MyPoints Toolbar.

    Thank you for your support and suggestion. As advised, I re-installed onecare and it solved my problem.

    I will try to follow instructions for malware protection in future.

    Also, I must apologize for being late in reply. I had to travel a lot for past few days.

    Anyway, thanks a lot again. I love this forum.
