firewall/router config ?

Hey all,

I purchased the Linksys BEFXS41 firewall/router. It is installed and all computers attached to it are connected to the internet. I have all the updated software. My only question is about configuring the firewall. I do not see any control panels or configuration programs. How do I tell the firewall what, where, when etc. I used to use Zonealarm for my firewall and could tell the program what programs and when they could access. Does this kind of equipment not require a user to do this?

Hi Jedis_Ghost,
You need to access the router settings through your browser. Type in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar and this gets you to the router log-in page. It should still be at default settings. Should have several tabs to select from to access different types of settings. One thing you should do after setting the firewall settings you want, change the default password on the router itself.

Went to Linksys and found a user guide for Version 1. If you have a different version, you need to check and see if it is any different from this one. Chapter 6 and 7 have the information you need I believe.

LBMEST is 100% correct except he forgot to say that the default username should be left blank and the default password is "admin" without the quotes.

I will also remind you to change the default password.

The Firewall of a Router is an Automatic Firewall, you need to configure the Router, but there is Nothing to configure as the Firewall per-se.

Read this it might help to understand how it works.
