How necessary is it to have a software firewall if you have a router? My friend says I don't need one. I am trying to get myself a good cleanup because I don't want something that I don't absolutely need. Just so you know, for security on my computer, I currently have:

    A-squared Free Edition
    Spybot Search and Destroy
    AVG Anti-Spyware
    NOD32 Antivirus
    Comodo Firewall

Everything I've read says you should have both hardware an software firewall.

Your list of protection apps looks good to me. Keep in mind that ASquared Free doesn't have any real-time active protection, and AVG AntiSpyware only has active protection for 30 days (or is it 14?) unless you pay for the 'full' or 'pro' version.

I turned off my firewall and ran some tests on the internet and i appear to be invisible, so I should be fine.
