I am having trouble setting up third party firewalls on Vista. The two I have been trying to use are, Jetico Personal Firewall, and Vista Firewall Controll. I have installed them both 3-4 times each, when I do I just cant get on the internet at all, and cant figure out how to sort it. So I remove them.

I would appreciate if someone could explain how to use these as I really feel I will need a decent firewall up and running. I liked the easy to use ZA on XP. But as of yet there dont seem to be any of the good names putting anything out.

    Thanks :)

Thanks zbd, but I allready have Jetico! I just cant get it work! It just stops all internet access until I uninstall.

Can anyone tell me how to use this or the other one please?

In VFC, did you enable your browser etc. when asked?

It never asked me a thing. Do you mean in the same way which ZoneAlarm would?

OK, double click the icon and make sure everything is enabled, if not double click the item and enable it.

Double click on what augie? Firefox? Or the tray icon for the firewall? I just want to be hundred percent before I do it as when I install, I wont be able to come back here and ask. I cannot connect. Unless I uninstall confused :(

    Thanks :)

I should have been clearer, doble click on the VFC icon which will bring up a list of which programs are enabled or not and then double click on an item that is not enabled and change the status.

Excellent augie. Seems a bit of a pest tho. I had to click on the icon of a page and locate firefox to allow it, seems a pest to have to do this for every program. Cant wait till someone brings ou an easier to use firewall for Vista, ZoneAlarm or Comodo.

What about my virus Killers or Windows functions. Do I need to locate them and give them permission?

Ya, it's a bit cryptic, especially if it doesn't pop up the list to ask you in the first place. I would enable everything that you recognize and check it again in a day or two to make sure you got everything since it didn't even ask you anything upon install.
