I am using the free version of Zone Alarm. Should I diable the use of XP's built in firewall or should both be used?

Thanks for your help and kindness!

use one or the other.. preferably zone alarms since it's more configurable.

Also, Zone Alarm stops unauthorized outgoing transmissions which XP doesn't do.

Is an Anti-virus needed with Zone Alarm

Related question-- I, too, am using Zone Alarm's freeware firewall. It seems to me that it makes an anti-virus package unnecessary. I've been running Norton's anti-virus, but I'm getting bugged by the $24 annual subscription cost.

Since I've had Zone Alarm running, I have never gotten a virus. Granted, I'm pretty conservative-- no chat or instant msg, etc.

But isn't it true that any virus would have to trip over Zone Alarm to do it's thing-- basically, if I don't tell ZA to let it run, it's toast? Or are there ways viruses can get around ZA?
