First (and last) experience with Windows Movie Maker.

Not a question, really just a grumble...
I had a clip that I wanted to trim so I could email it to a friend. I opened it in WMM and managed - after a few tries - to lop off the unwanted part. Then I tried to save it to My Videos, and that's where it all went to c**p.
Several attempts to save failed. There was no problems about space on the hard disk, and the clip was in WMV, and the file was there where it should be. I tried saving to the Desktop instead, same result. What was really annoying was that I could save the clip as a project in WMM's own file format. So whatever the problem was, I don't think it was the clip itself.
I tried for an hour then I just quit and dug up an old Open Office extras disk and installed VirtualDub. First time I'd tried using that too, so I went back to the original material and did everything just as I'd done with WMM. Except that it was a hell of a lot easier AND I was able to save the end result. In fact it was so easy that I was sure I'd done something wrong.

In order to fix the windows movie maker, first open the program, go up top and pick tools then options and there should be a compatability tab. Uncheck all the checked boxes or what ever you think is causing the problem (I unchecked them all). Restart the program and you will be able to save your project as a movie.
