First job!

About to go and apply for my first job in a local Italian Restaurant in the village!
Tis scary but I'm really excited!! Wish me luck!!!

Put my CV in to a very popular pizza place in the village and they seemed really enthusiastic about me hehe. My mum was with me and the manager's wife was there and they're great friends so she's going to put a good word in for me hehehe!

Sometimes, i don't really have much to say. The interview has got to be the worst part of looking for a job. I was going to go back to work, bored, got selected from 42 canidates, but left the company immediately after I found out some things that weren't disclosed during the interview, it's just as important that you go into the interview process prepared with questions of your own.

 

Lol I considered work in the nearby supermarket but thought nah waitoring would be so much better, plus you get tips if you're really great

Might be a bit early !! Don't wait more than a week, though, if only to put you out of your misery. A lot of companies don't bother to reply to unsuccessful candidates. Once I even got onto a shortlist of 3 and they didn't bother to let me know. Bazza

I have to agree with Bazza, you should ring them.
there are only so many jobs and a hell of alot of applicant's this'll keep you forefront in their memory.

My first job....I had an interview and then immediately went on vacation. As they couldn't reach me (no cell phones back in the Dark Ages ) I called a couple of days later and the guy was impressed...so much so it had been a close call between me and 1 other, so they gave me the job for showing initiative and interest.

Moral of the story mcadam??? Call Monday Don't give the competition room

 

I don't want to seem too desperate though, bear in mind this is a restaurant and I'm currently in the middle of my exams.

 

They want desperate, not some flake who isn't going to take it seriously.
Employers biggest challenges are sorting through the people who are just putting in apps anywhere to meet unemployment qouta's and crap like that. they have to know who really wants the job, and who's just making gestures.

 

I find that interviews are a lot like flirting, only less, uhh, sexual In both situations, you're selling yourself, and you're making the best impression you can. You're emphasising your strengths and trying to hide your weaknesses. You're also trying to make them remember you.

On both counts, body language is almost everything. If you look confident, respectful and enerprising in your body language, you won't need to say anything to make up for it

I've learnt this after running my business for a year, and singlehandedly getting clients to "sign on the dotted line", so to speak not bragging or anything....
