Fix Windows Boot Sector

Hi. I dropped my laptop and it hit hard enough to crack the screen, somehow after working about half an hour there's suddenly a boot file missing.

I've been using ubuntu and I've about had my fill of both the OS and its programs. How do I determine what I'm missing from Windows? I'm using a Dell Inspiron but not its native drive so I don't have any recovery or reset options.

 

When you have missing files on start up, that is often a sign of a faulty hard drive- dropping a hard drive can severely damage it.

You can try running CHKDSK /R from a command prompt -https://kb.paragon-software.com/article/189
If you cannot get into Windows, you can download an iso file to burn a disc for recovery, or, re-installation.
Next , if you can get into Windows, you can run sfc /scannow, -this may replace/repair,if chkdsk /r does not solve it.
Otherwise, you can try boot recovery

The first two (FixMbr, and FixBoot)are the ones to start with.
Windows iso's can be downloaded here, for repairing/re-installation.-You will need your COA for your version of Windows, unless the repair works.
