I have a Dell XPS 720 very similar to this one:

I've noticed this maybe three times within the last couple of months and am wondering if its any reason for concern. From what I can gather, the flash of light is coming from inside the computer tower and it happens I think maybe 5 to 20 minutes after the computer has been turned off. I also hear a slight click sound accompanying the flash. I'm a little worried something is gonna go up in flames but what can you guys tell me about it

    Thanks

I've never seen one before so I can only guess, most likely a light inside your computer that flicks on for second as a capacitor drains of charge,if its been doing it ever since you got your computer and your not experiencing any problems I wouldn't worry about it,the click can be caused by a power relay.

If you would like more piece of mind your gonna have to find out where its coming,if it only happens once 20 mins after you've switched off and is brief and bright your gonna struggle to see where it comes from and may have to do some investigating,I guess if you have a camera set it videoing the side of the case you can then watch the replay or sit there for 20mins and wait.

If you can point to the component or post a picture of where the light comes from we can tell you what it is.:)

    Hi

Have seen those PCs before and in some models they have Cold Cathodes and thoses can as Rikky points out can flash on startup and shutdown, the click could just be a conincidence and linked to the Power Supply shutting off, also and I know my PC does this the HDDs or one of them clicks a few seconds after shutdown.

Also one motherboard of mine has a motherboard power warning light, which goes off after a whiles when the PC is off to basically tell you that the motherboard is now not live.

As Rikky says maybe watch the PC from shutdown and look through the side panel windows and see what is making the flash,

Yup... Opening the tower and checking to see the exact source of the 'flash' is the quickest most definative way to get to the root of the problem. Like Rikky said... take a picture of the component and post it....
