net video hunter (1.9.5) claims it will download "any" video played in firefox, but I find lots and lots that don't. often they are videos labeled "adobe flash".

often what they do is download an endless series of fragments. that is, if a video is 20M (say), i get 3.2M, 4.3M, 745k, etc files ad nauseum. they don't seem to add up to anything, and they don't end.

    here's 2 examples:

they play fine in place, but i'll be darned if i can figure out how to extract either!

is it just a matter of trying out a different add-on?

This is the combo i use to play flash videos.

First for firefox use this add on - Ant Video Downloader and Player -->>>https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloader-player/?src=search

Get rid of the other ones. This works on alot of sites but not all.The Icon will be put right next to the search options. The icon looks like a planet or what ever.

Next Get this - CCCP --->>>http://www.majorgeeks.com/CCCP_Combined_Community_Codec_Pack_d6093.html

Uninstall any other Codec pack you have this will work for Windows Media Player and will Play DVDs as well.

The Ant Video Down loader will download just about any file that can be downloaded like music and videos.

I hope this is what you are asking for.Your Post is kinda Vega

hmmm, the net video hunter icon looks like a planet too. they trying to confuse us?

and, yeah, I was looking for add-ons like the two you've given. but why do I need to remove CODECS? most of the time i'm playing stuff OFFLINE. it's just a question of how do I snag them in the first place.

aside from those new add-ons, i'd be curious to hear a reply from one of the others who claims that NVH also downloads "everything". not in my experience!

i had to reinstall FF, so i'm doing this from scratch. any further thoughts on video DLers? for youtube stuff, i use YouTubeDownloader (3.9.6, tho there's prolly a newer one by now). it's freestanding, it works flawlessly, and it SNAGS THE NAME OF THE VID. i find tthat important. i used to use orbit's "grab+" which A) was flaky B) left me with a pile of VIDEODOWNLOAD(3), VIDEODOWNLOAD(4), VIDEODOWNLOAD(5) type names, and C) stopped working anyways.

YTD can't handle non-youtube vids, tho, and i have yet to find a freestanding app which CAN. anyone?

as a workaround, i was loading the vids into FF and using either 1-click DL or one-click DL (not sure WHICH, they seem to be different and i had them both installed), the aforementioned Ant, and NetVideoHunter recommended in some other thread. one of those worked on most vids (all konfoozed at this point which did what!), but NOT ALL.

in this day and age, how can snagging a video be so damn tricky? most of the stuff i'm attempting are just off NEWS sites -- syria attack, boulder floods, miley @VMAs, stuff like that. if they're on youtube, great, but sometimes the best vid is only on medialite or huffpo or somewhere else, and then i'm scrod.

    -----
i'm reinstalling Ant (and NVH and 1-click/one-click, i guess), but i'd rly much rather a freestanding app. is there NOTHING out there which can handle non-youtube vids? some all-in-one DLer which actually WORKS?

    Greetings.

Just a head's up: YouTube's Terms of Service (Section 5B) states:

so noted. altho technically to VIEW is to download, the question is what app can extract/hang onto the TEMP FILES already on your PC.

for me, i'm on dialup -- the only way to VIEW anything in the first place is to grab hold of some sort of link and DL it slowly. back around 2003 a site like youtube used to be able to buffer in place (i.e., click "play" and finally watch 2-3 hrs later), but this has long since stopped working. i'm not "saving" anything over and above trying to get it to play in the first place.

besides, this thread is mainly about DLing *non* YT videos, remember? :major
