Flash Drive Usb Problems

I have a 4gb flash drive USB that I put windows 7 bootable on for installing on pc with no CD drive. Since then I've not been able to modify this flash drive. I can't format it it says its write protected but that is not something that I ever switched on. The drive doesn't have a switch n on it. It refuses any attempt to switch off write protect using software so my drive is just for Windows 7 installation and I'll never be able to use it again..

Is there a fix, other than buy a new one?

I've tried all the methods of removal but none of them work. I even bought a program that claimed it could do it but even that failed. I don't believe that it can't be used again. If I can use it to load the software from it then I must also be able to write to it. Unless it's a hardware fault but then typically from experience it wouldn't work at all.

It is very bizarre and very annoying and I've dedicated many hours trying to resolve this but I'm stumped
