Floppy drive "runs" to much?

On my wife's computer running Win98SE.

I am trying to update the keys to my Kaspersky Anti Virus program (so I can update from the internet). In order to do this I have to un-install the program then "attach" the new keys. Usually this is not a problem, I have done it before.

However, now when I try to un-install (KAV), as soon as I click to "uninstall" the A: (floppy) runs for a moment and the un-install progress box that popped up goes blank.

Another thing, if i try to simply install the Kaspersky Anti Virus program from my D: or E: drives (CD) the program responds OK for a moment, the floppy "runs" for a moment, then I get a message something to the effect "original source files not available".

I suspect the problem is something I have done, but I don't know where to look.

    Appreciate any help, Gold Bear

It clearly thinks that the KAV program was installed from a floppy. Try putting in any old floppy disk and see if that then gives you the choice of pointing to the correct location.

That sounds like a good idea. I suppose the windows un-install information got corrupted? I will give that a try and let you know what happens.

    Yargewel,

I tried that last night. No luck. The KAV program is to large to put on a floppy, so that won't work.

I am tempted to just delete the folder that holds the KAV program, but the problem with that is when I would try to re-install it, I have the same problem of the install wizard "looking" to the A: drive then stalling. So, I would not even be able to re-install the KAV program.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks, Gold Bear

What I actually meant wasn't for you to try and put the KAV program on a floppy but to put in an old floppy disk into the A-drive so that when you run the uninstall it will look at the A-drive and find something there. You should then get the chance to point the program in the right direction when it doesn't find what it wants on that floppy.

Hope that is a bit clearer. :)

in task bar settings, clear the documents field.

chatter on the floppy drive will quit

Actually I did understand what you intended, it was my reply that wasn't clear. I did try to un-install with an old floppy in the A-drive, but the un-install progress bar shows up for just a split second, then disappears. At the same moment the the A-drive runs for a moment, as if looking for a disk. So, I never get a chance to point to another drive.

I was just "thinking out loud" when I talked about the possibility of putting the KAV program on a floppy.

Kjanz, I will try your suggestion and get back to y'all.

    Thanks again, Gold Bear
