There is no files in the folder?
Also, be sure you have the box unchecked next to "Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)"

What does it say when you attempt to delete it from normal and safe mode?

I had one like this a while back, I had to ghost my partition, format my HDD and then write the image back without the folder that I couldnt delete.

    Download Pocket KillBox

Now, Copy and Paste THE EXACT FOLDER NAME AND LOCATION into the box – If it exists, it will show up in Blue. Check the option to Delete on Reboot and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click YES.

Reboot and see if it still remains.

Where exactly if the folder located? The folder name may include non-printable characters.

Try giving the below program a try. It shows things the Win Explorer does not:

    ExplorerXP

idea: boot to safemode, open a cmd prompt, open taskmanager, end process on explorer.exe, delete the folder via the cmd prompt. In taskmanager, start explorer.exe again (new task). see if that will do it! :D

I cant restore from the recycle bin
and I cant find it in the promt
    where is it!!!

    aahhh!!

If the "where is it" folder is located in your Program Files folder, then at the command promt you should type:

    rd c:\Program Files\where is it?

that will remove the directory (hence rd). Be sure to open the cmd prompt first, then end explorer.exe, then type the command, then start explorer.exe up.

the folder "wheretemp" is in the recycle bin, but wont delete or be restored

oh,.. try going to the c:\RECYCLER folder and rightclick the files you see in there goto properties, and uncheck the read only box at the bottom. Then go in your recycle bin as normal and delete the folder.

    its not checked

ok, opening taskmanager and a cmd prompt, end processes on explorer and in the cmd prompt do the following:

    cd c:\recycler
dir (press tab key), (there may be more than 1 recycle file, so you can do this step again and hit the "tab" key twice, it will cycle to the next file automatically for you)
    enter

you should see all files in your recylce bin (renamed), if you recycle bin is empty except for that folder, you'll see it there, (renamed to something like <DIR> DC?? (where ?? are numbers). then type:

del DC?? (use the file name from the previous step).

well I know it was renaked "Dc14"
but when I am in the cmd propmt
when I type dir. . well here:

    jarcher I can't handle a title

    let me rephrase that

    ok in the dir tab
there are more than one DC?? files
    including the one forementioned
    but
when I try to del Dc?? or Dc??.xml
    the file cannot be found
even though I see it listed in the dir

hmmm... a little beyond me, however I have read about getting rid of the recycle bin completely then deleting something and Windows rebuilds it. But I've never done it. Anyone?... (and this is probably more an issue for the sofware forum).

Try ExplorerXP again to delete from the Recycler folder. If that does not work, you may want to try sending something else to the Recycle bin and see if you can remove it. If not, you could have a form of the L2Me VX2 problem which has been know to cause problems like this with the Recycle bin.

    jarcher I can't handle a title

    anything else can be deleted
and I cant seem to find it in explorerxp

then I ran kill2me and there was no sign of infection, and I scaned anyway
the Recycle bin is empty(as in nothing visibly there), but it still shows something in it

Those tools will not find it. You need Find It NT/2000/XP but you may not have a problem if other files can be deleted. Does not hurt to check though.

What do you mean you cannot find it in explorerxp? What are you looking for? File names in Recycler do not look like what you think.

Also, in ExplorerXP select a file and hit SHIFT-DELETE to delete files permanently. Obviously you do not want normal delete which just trys to send them to to the Recycle bin again.

Also for items that look like folders, you can right click on them and select Properties to find out what they are.
