Folders and IE won't load

Ok, when I try to access any folders, the screen goes blank except for my wallpaper for a few seconds, then comes back without the folder.

Internet Explorer won't load either... nothing comes up when i click on it.

...Also, explorer.exe won't load in safe mode, and when i try and manually run it, it closes itself after a few seconds.

Please help, I've had this problem for a few weeks now and it's really getting on my nerves. I'll post a HJT log in a min.

This indicates a crash of explorer.exe. Check your application logs and post any errors here.
To check the logs: start->run, type eventvwr.msc and press enter. Search for errors (red X in front) in the system and application sections that are related to the crash. If you make explorer crash and get to the event viewer right after the crash, they should be at the top of the list. Double click on the error and press the copy button in the window that appears. Paste it here.

From a newsgroup post: "This problem can be caused by a shell extension. Isolate the problem by temporarily disabling third-party shell extensions using ShellExView from NirSoft".
I looked for it here, but didn't find it. http://www.nirsoft.net/search_freeware.html (if the below link doesn't work)

Read up on it at the above link to familiarize yourself with it before using it. You would want to disable 3rd party extensions, one by one, and see how Windows responds after that to find which one, if any, is causing the problem.
It also helps identify 'suspect' extensions;

I would also create a restore point before using it...just in case.
