Glenn is going to trounse me lol! We need a big oomph right now, we're starting to lose momentum like a bullet hitting a wall of honey. If you look at the "Team battles"... it shows our persuers outnumber our targets... this is bad. We could potentially drop about 4 places if we don't get our asses into gear!

I need to get somthing more substansial onto the case than my collection of 700Mhz machines and a P4 and a 3000+... we need more people with a 1000+ production rate. If we wanna keep going we need to get our production rate up at least a couple of hundred points. 900th is a brilliant achivement, but we wanna go for gold!

i've got a pretty good setup im using. But i need more ram (512 isn't that much). i got an 1800+ athlon xp so thats pretty good. plus, im always on the computer. like 12 hour days so yeah i should contribute pretty well.

@ Goldfish... I will try my best to add another "gun" in the next two days.

@ NeoNemesis... That is more than ample hardware to crank this stuff out. Do you think you could get away with leaving your rig turned on all the time?
And, even when you are using your computer, unless you are gaming or doing some kind of intense graphics programs, a user won't touch what an XP 1800+ with 512 MB RAM has.

We can't allow ourselves to be taken over easily.
I may be able to talk my mother into getting in on this. She has this idea that the computer may catch on fire if left on all the time. Some so-called computer guy told her that. I may be able to go over to her house and blow the dust out of her computer tomorrow and pitch it to her.

I will also e-mail one of my computer buddies who is not a member here.

We'll just do what we can. Looks like we lost SiLenze99, but,

Well i just submitted another two gromacs, just waiting for them to show up, im not getting many points for them, but im getting 2 or 3 done a day so far.

it looks like you can have wu of 1 and have a higher score than someone with a wu of 4

Just a bit of a note to AMD users.

Gromacs run significantly better on intel CPUS and Tinkers run better on AMD resulting in much higher daily totals if you are running mostly tinkers.

So how do you run mostly tinkers?

Well the only way I have been able to do it is by using the Google Toolbar and its F@H client. You do however have to edit the registry values and the config file for it to return results for team majorgeeks. If needed, I can walk people through the changes in another post.

Frames don't have alot to do with speed Neo. I've got a tinker with 1,000,000 steps that's going quicker then the one I have on this computer that is 125,000 steps. So in answer to your other question there is no normal size. Just hang tight every one is different, well to a degree anyway.

Tinkers and Gromacs are the protiens that we are Folding. Tinkers take awhile 2 to 3 days to do but you get 200 plus points for them on average. I've done some Gromacs in a total of 5 hours but I only got 20 points for it. So you could have one tinker done and have 200 points while somebody else might have 5 gromacs done but only have 100 points. But there are slow Gromacs also that are worth alot and latly I've had some fast tinkers but I didn't pay attention to what I got for them. The longer the unit runs the more points you'll get for it.

Actually Gromac and Tinker referrs to the computing core : the program that does the folding simulation. Tinker is the original core, and is most suited for Folding as it was designed specifically for that purpose. Gromac was another distributed core which was adapted to run protien folding simulations for the folding project. It is further optimised than Tinker, but certain simulations cannot currently be run with the Gromac core, so the Tinker core is still used.

i completed a few work units. seems to take forever to do a fold.
mainly i do distributed.net, i was doing seti boinc but it lost some of my work.

Some take awhile some don't but it's the same for everybody. Hang around and keep on crunching with us. Your just spoiled like I was doing those fast seti units and getting big numbers fast. I've only been crunching three months and I've got a bunch. They add up fast!

btw, so basically we are transmitting our results to the Stanford college for there super comptuers to utilize? am i getting this right? we all use our computers for the little math problems and stuff (the folding) and then transmit the results back to the lab at stanford?

Hey all its great to see all of this action on the boards,!!!!,,,FYI,,since in now staying at my dads house because we still have no power at ours,,,I am folding away LOL P4 100% processor,,,and PS since Im here thought I would sneek a copy SHHHHHHHHHH dont tell,,,,,of the folding software on DADs computer ,,,LOL so I have another box churning away for a unit here and there,,,,Great to see all the new members of our folding team,,,,and Ill be crunching away,,,Glenn

Hey all,,,, well past the 3000 point mark with 34 units in,,,not bad about 95 points per data unit averaging out,,even through the hurricane I squeeked out a 100 point gromac LOL,,now thats DEDECATION ,,,working on a Tinker on the P4,,,should be in by tomorrow night,,,and a gromac on my DADs computer LOL,,,as long as im staying here I installed folding on his PC LOL,,,so I have another box crunching ,,,a extra unit here and there,,,...look out GOLDIE LOL will be nibbling your tail soon enough going hard at it ,,,,LOL,,,Glenn

www.folding.stanford.edu and then click on download and download the program that best fits you. its that simple. then let it install and run it and then it will do everything for you! all you have to do is upt in the team name (12072) and your name (Lugztaz) so we can know who you are. It will do the rest by itself. Its pretty easy. If you want to kno more about it you can read up on some of the text on that page. It will pretty much tell you everything you need to know.

btw, how do you tell if its a tinker or a gromac?

Cool, that's the best one for new comers.
I assume your downloaded now so just click and enter your data like whats his name said team # 12072 your name and leave the rest as they are for now.
Then once your up and running you can right click on the tray icon pick configure and adjust your CPU percentage. I'd leave it where it is for now and if every thing goes good push it all the way up. Folding is a low priority program so anything else you have running will get first dibs at your processing power. So turn off your screen saver and close any programs that you don't need running. That's a good thing to do in any case.
