I've been working on a 25,000 frame Tinker!!! Now that is going to take a while.

My old PIII are just about finished with a 400 frame gromac each..so they should dump thoses soon.

not that I have seen
the biggest I have had was like 4000 frames

hell yeah, were moving on up. i have a question. if i add more memory, would that speed up the folding?

Eric,,its truly based on processor speed,,,if you look at your windows task manager,,and lets say you are using half of the memory resource,,,no need to add more,,if you are maxing it out,,,chances are your computer lags in general YES adding more could help the WHOLE computer to be more responsive to other tasks whiile folding and may improve the folding process in itself , Glenn

also helpfull ,,is to increase your swap file to a larger size,,windows uses this like memory,,,

Well I've had a router for a month now and finally decided to attemp it, the install that is. I did it manually and got all the windows machines hooked up to the cable. Then I went to the Linux machine, a different story there. Ending up crashing Mandrake and having to reinstall (twice) so I lost the gromac that I was working on. But I got it! I am now surfing hi speed with Linux and will probably not look at the windows computers for a while.
I'm still not networked to the windows computers but that's ok, I now don't have to worry about folding units finishing and sitting there all day waiting for me to get home and do the dial up thing. So that will help me out on the amount of units I get sent in.

How long did it take you to find those cheerleaders Glenn

The good news also about the router hook up is that I now have another open port that I can connect another computer to. Don't have one yet but you never know.
Thanks for the cheerleaders Glenn. After I saw it I did a search so I could show you what I meant by "cheerleader" and closed the window quick, damn there's alot of porn out there.

Ok what is this new tinker software that is out there. I just downloaded, and installed, and i am very confused now! Has any one tried it out yet? I know glenn said he was going to be our guinie pig...how did it work out?

Morning all,,Cooked,,I DLed both the tinker and the gromac software,,,I have not tyied yet,,was not at computer at end of a WU,,,,,,and not interrupting a working process,,,FYI,,,I set my normal panel to get tinkers,,and pulled a 50 frame 30 point tinker,,,I think the gromacs that stanford are releasing are 2nd generation,,,meaning they are processes that came from already processed work units,,being taken to the next level of development,,SO,,I am going to install the gromac software,,was looking at the summery of released gromacs,,,one unit even had a point rendering of 650 for one unit,,,,more points more complex units,,will post what I find out,,,when I get to be here for a transition,,Glenn

I don’t know if people are keeping track, but our team continues its quick rise through the ranks. At this hour our team ranking is 374 of 33539 total teams. This is great and represents a big jump (from the 600’s to 374) in just the last 3 or 4 weeks. We continue to have new people start folding for us, but some seem to drop off after awhile. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why people are dropping? Can anyone who’s done so let me know what we can do better here? As a team, are we still trying to make it into the top 100? By year’s end?

 

Agreed, a LARGE junp forward, and would also like to know what we can do to improve our team,,@MRSU,,,many people may start out,,and see a slow folding process,,,and may discontinue Folding,,,Also many may just be running slower PC's and will turn in a unit here and there !!, All is good,,,Yes we wish continued Groth !! Sorry I've not been posting down here so much recently, but I've been really busy with school starting again and all the extra-curicular activities I'm taking part in.

I assure you I am still folding, slowly but steadily, I'm not going to be guarding my position at all, but I will be checking up on stats as usual

@all...A good friend of mine local,,,has just bought a NEW computer 1.8g processor ,Of course I am setting up for him,LOL ,His FIRST HOME PC,,,has a system at his office for real estate work,,but now has a pristine HP tower and monitor sitting in a box in his living room,,,and for my services,,,I recruite a new FOLDING MACHINE LOL ,,,he is all for the good cause !!!,, ,and for the setup a few lessons and continued support as a friend !!!,,,will be DLing a first WU,,,on his new machine on Friday Morning,,and he ,also will leave on 24/7 ,another computer towards a good cause, Glenn

It seemed like there was a week or so there that nothing was getting done. I still had the five computers running but they were on strike or something. Now the last two days I've sent in about fifteen.
And as I've said before I wish everybody would pass me but I'm not going to make it easy.

Mgrist, how did you go from having 11 computers folding down to your current of 5 or 6? You just taking it easy on the rest of us?

 

Greetings all, I have turned in 2 tinkers today,,one off my P3 in den,,now working a 2500 frame gromac,,,My P4 has JUST sent in another tinker,,,235 points on the first,,will see what the secound score is when Stanford updates next,,,,also Was at Friends house today, Set uphis new PC a HP AMD 2500 ruinning at 1.8mhz,,,and its folding away, on a LARGE Gromac,,will run about 24-30 hrs,,,also My Dad's PC's should also dump in a 400 frame tinker this weekend as well,,,My P4 just DLed a 2500 frame gromac will be done tomorrow,,progress in the works, Glenn

 

some how i lost a gromac or it started over it was at 2000\2500 and now it is at 50\2500
i never turned it in, and i checked the f@h web site and my count is the same.

LOL,,,actually this is a life long friend,,he cares not where the points go,,also will never visit MG site,,just uses his PC for email and work from home,,,but does believe in the good cause of folding !!!,,,so not SUCH a crime,,,,he wants me to have the credit in points,,,so why not recruit his extra machine,,,for our TEAM !!!...its a team project,,and if I can recruit another machine in a persons name or mine,,,it is for the benifit of the TEAM in whole,,Glenn

I agree with your technique. I recently enlisted my uncle's computer in the same way. It should start producing very soon I hope. All for the cause.

 

LOL thats what I did with my Dad ,,,he bought a laptop,,a older,,but wanted his home made wirless,,,,so when I setup his network,,,,I added folding to his tower,,,a older P3 333mhz,,,and the secound hand laptop is a 400mhz,,,,,they throw a unit in here and there,,

,My P4,,,2.8mhz does most of the crunching,,and now friend's PC AMD 2500 just starting today will keep a close secound, and also added to my daughters laptop,,,one unit a month from the dinosor ibm 233mhz thinkpad LOL

and the other 4 Machines,,,are extra work units here and there, Glenn

Just found a virus on the 2.80 computer. I unplugged the network cable first ran updates and scans on the other three win computers and they came up clean. On the 2.8 it took two trys to get the virus deleted but it is supposedly gone now. I should have written the name of it down but I didn't. It was "win 32 something"

Update, My Friends new computer the HP Atholon AMD 2500 is crunching away, !!!!!,running a 2500 frame gromac, and is at 1250 in one day,,will turn in its first unit tomorrow afternoon !!! Seems to be running fast also just a FYI,,I installed the 5.03 beta version of the Windows, Graphical Client,

My P4 will turn in a 2500 frame gromac tonigt and my dad's computer will send in a 400 frame tinker Monday morning,,,Hope all are doing well, and catch ya on the boards,,,Glenn

 

Morning all,,,A wonderfull Sunday to all, !!!,,,I woke today, with 73 WU's done, and broke the 7000 piont mark !! turning in a 155 point gromac, off P4 , and now working a 200 point gromac on same machine,,,28-30 hrs to go on it,,,also Friends computer should turn in its first unit today !!, and Dad's PC will turn in a 400 frams tinker 241 pointer by tonight or tomorrow morning,, Glad to say my pace is all back on track after loss of power for 11 days and many a hurricane, and power surges, causing me to loose several units as well,,,A Folding I will go,,,LOL,,,no fishing for me,,I go FOLDING on sundays LMAO,,,really need to get out some,,getting pail and withering away,,LOL....Well all,,,Catch ya on the boards, Glenn
