LOL this thread cracks me up.

I have two gromacs at 50%, and a tinker just ready to send in on my 3200.

Once i switched over to tinkers, i have been flying through, stacking up thoses points.

Hey. The thing is actually coming along. Now, though, I must call it with a cron-job. I have to configure the computer to dial up and get the stats each night.
So, I can configure the cron-job to dial-up, and then another cron-job to dump the stats page to my hdd. However, it then fails.
I ***think*** its because the crond in Slackware (Matthew Dillon's cron) is not quite as capable as the ***usual*** Vixie Cron (or whatever).

So, I try to do it in Fedora. Easy, right?
I wish.
I have trouble now getting wvdial to configure correctly in Fedora.
(The command line dial-up in Slack was easy -- ppp-go).

I must sleep now, though.
I will be out of town this weekend. I will let you guys know if I can get this thing worked out.

I've got to get some tinkers going also these gromacs are boring and slow. Tell me what you did to start getting some tinkers cooked.

 

Mgrist, what version of the software are you using???

 

Glenn suggested that i donwload the beta version. I was then able to change my preferences to "deadlineless" This brings in tinkers.

Mandrake is the easiest. There all easy as far as getting around in, Mandrake is just the easiest to configure as far as modems, networking ect...

 

Just talked to the ex about getting my little girl on the internet so that I could do Folding on her computer, she said no.
Just checked the stats page and rmsubasic is now poised to overtake me in January. If we could just get about ten of you guys going at that rate we'd really be rocking. We are doing good though, Robster and I were going for the top 2000 and were only dreaming about getting into the top 1000. Now look at all the work you guys have done. Thanks

UPDATE:..Ok I after though of the tinker/gromac debate, I chose to not go with either one, but instead, I opted to go with the Beta Version for Windows.

This enables still to have a choice between the WU's,,and not locked into one or the other. On install I DLed the new software, did a complete uninstall, as well as removing the FOLDING Folder from my program files of the old 5.02 version to have a clean install, you CAN save into existing directory but I chose a clean install..

If you chose to do same ,, Create a folder on your desktop and name FOLDING, then save the software to that folder, this will allow for easy access to the data files, log files, without having to view through the client itself,,This is what the new display looks like , as performance will have to let you know, Glenn

3. Revised OpenGL code to handle weird WUs (eg p12XX) better (i.e. not crash) (pre)
4. Better WU time/frame estimation. (pre2)
5. Fixes a redraw problem found when the main title is turned off (pre2)
6. Fixes issue with p268 and other WUs like it (pre3)
7. Fixes issue with frame time update calculation (pre4)
8. Fixes issues with screen saver activation (pre5)
9. Fixes more issues with screen saver activation (pre6)
10. Screen saver redraw and stability fix (pre7)
11. More Screen saver cleanup (pre8)
12. Attempt to fix focus issues (pre9)

This preview release will not expire. These files are executables, not installers. To run, you should move them to the directory in which FAH was installed. Or chose the clean install method.

Methinks yer playin' possum, mgrist. I am trying my best to catch you, but I don't think I'll be seeing you in January. Also two of my current folders are going to be offline for awhile. Anywho, thanks for the nice mention. While we're speaking of me, I just hit 20,000 points, and couldn't be happier. The bottom line is that I'm chasing after your good example, so thanks for being there. The team is going great thanks to yours, Robster's and others efforts.

Looks like I just scored one of those big 320 point GROMACS. It will be interesting to see how long it takes to run this little sucker:

anybody been the stats page lately? all you can see is the projected numbers, it doesn't show any individual stats. is that a bad sever or what?

Eric was just there.the statsman page...it may be a server problem,,the top 1000 teams show no stats either,,was thinking it was statsman site need monies,,I sent 10bucks a while ago,,if you mean the stanford site,,all ok, Glenn

Glenn, please send some instructions on how to pay. What exactly does the site do? Is this money used for the site or is it donated to the folding cause? Thanks much in advance for the info.

 

The site is hosted out of england,,on the statsman page there is a paypal Icon,top right,,if you open a paypal account , I think paypal gives you a 5 dollar perk,,,the statsman site is seperate from MG site,...and does indeed give us great stats,,,the money goes tward, the maintance of the site,,,none to folding im afraid,,,,but hosting a page,,and the constand updates is a time consuming effort,,,




I know Rooster Robert, LOL Has something in the works for us,,,but I and many enjoy the graphiing,l and stats from the statsman page,,so If you care to anti up,,I will match the 10 bucks,,,Glenn

By my calculations, at our current pace we are still a bit to slow to ever make it into the top 100 teams. It looks like we will make it to about rank 170 by the end of December 25 (Christmas). Anyone want to start a little pool to see who is closest to guessing our rank by then?

I had one like that for my amiga, but it was square and had an optional "phone receiver adaptor" which you could clip on the phone, or it plugged into the phone line

 

I actually powered up that Atari,,and it has on the 5 1/2 in disk,,a program that animated a line image of a car exploding,,,guess cool for its time !!!!
