I am trying to set up folding with my i7 CPU and just do not seem to be able to get it running, when i complete the setup (see pics) i end up at a screen that asks for "login" and i have no idea what to enter in the box as i have not set up any login details.

Can anyone help please, i have been at this for 3 days now and can not find a way to get it to run.

    Thanks
    Bill

P.S i am using this format for the setup.

    Hey BILL,
I've attached my files so you can compare but they look the same to me. I changed the .vmx file to .txt to upload.
I have never logged in to the onscreen player file. The notfred appliance knows what to do once you reconfigure the vmx file. You just start it up. At least that has happened for me.

One thing you have changed that i have not is "File search path"

I just checked with Task manager and they do seem to be running so i will wait and see if they are actually producing.

I am just curious about how to re-start after a shut down??

That would have been done automatically when you pointed the VMPlayer to the config file when you were first creating the machine. It would be dependent on where you saved the 4 copies that were renamed. (Which I left on my desktop.)

I am just running 2 for the moment to see if they work.

I have left mine on Desktop as well.

    Thanks for the input.

Double click on the VMPlayer program icon (I left this as a shortcut on my desktop) and you should have the 4 files on the left side. Highlight one and go to right side. State should be suspended and go below to "play virtual machine", click on and it will resume from where you were.

Did you set up FahMon to monitor the appliances?
If not, you can go to the IP address that was assigned to the VM and down near the bottom is the Folding Log File link to see what is going on.

I have a feeling it was my fault :-o because i have a fully paid up version of VMware workstation and i was using that.

I have now downloaded the VM player in the link and set it up with that.

I have Fahmon installed(with IP address)but at the moment it is not showing any results so i will give it some time.

I haven't used that but I wouldn't think it would make that big a difference.
I believe the workstation just gives more configurable options. You could ask augie cause I think he has it also.
Give it about an hour and see what FahMon says.

Ya, I used to use the free version of workstation and compared to VM Player 3 was very cumbersome, haven't used it in months but I'll try to help if I can.:)

I thought you had some 12GB in there already. you definitely don't need more RAM. You do need a minimum of 4.2GB to run the max SMP production.

I only have 4gb in this rig, that's all i had of DDR3 so i need to get another couple of sticks.

Aah Ok, I mixed you up with someone else, sorry. Ya, 2GB would be perfect but a lack of RAM should not stop you from SMP folding, it'll just fold slower.

I have no idea why i can not get it to produce so i have taken a rest from it at the moment and will get back to it next week.

Ya, step away from the keyboard!:banghead:-D After a point one just starts running around in circles, I know the feeling.

Sometimes running around in circles can lead to 1 of 2 things: Moving off the circle slightly and hitting a brick wall, or moving off the circle slightly and hitting a brick wall.
