It seems to me that this folding@home program is using 100% of my cpu. Is there a way to set it so that it runs when I am not on the system? Or do I have to pause it each time I want to do something? Any information will be helpful.

    Thanks!!

Never mind, I am running a new program called Process Explorer and discovered that I am reading it wrong. No problem for Folding to be running while I am on the computer.

Holey heck, I was reading it right..kudos to new geek..woohoo. Ahem, anyways. It does use about 95% of my CPU when it is running. original question still applies.

    Thanks!!

Ok. Again, it doesn't matter that its using that much power, since it's using all the power that you aren't using. All other programs being run on your PC have priority over the process.

If you imagine that CPU usage is a cake, each process takes a bit of cake a certain size for how hungry they are. All Folding does is take whats left over after every process has taken its part. Unlike all the other processes, it does not have a predetermined ammount to take... so it can take as much or as little as there is available.

You CAN throttle it down a bit, using the client.cfg file in the folding directory. if it is on 100%, it will take all of the "cake" that is left. If you put it on, say, 80%, it will take 80% of the "cake" left. If you run the executable with the parameter -config then you can adjust this.

Thanks gold. Now, lets act like I have no idea what you mean by "run it with the parameter -config". And, to spice it up a bit, lets act like I don't know how to do what that implies.

Although, if it is not going to interfere with anything else I am doing I see no reason that I should not let it run its little heart out.

    Thanks again!!

Would still like to act like I dont know the above mentioned stuff. ;)

    Great :)

FYI to run a program with a parameter goes as follows:
In your run box, you might have the following:
    C:\FAH\FAH5-Console.exe
To add the -config parameter, just do this:
    C:\FAH\FAH5-Console.exe -config

However, it sounds like you're using the Graphical client, so you shouldn't need to worry about it! :)
