    Background:
I opened a questionable .exe file (which has now been permanently deleted) and computer locked up. After reboot, Avast went nuts and wanted to reboot to perform a scan, which cleans a few files but not everything, so I kept getting reinfected with Bravix, Agent-LTS, and some "Unknown" Trojan.

    Points of interest:
-This is a new XP install (less than 1 week since install) with SP3 and I made a couple tweaks to integrate Media Center Edition into it.
-I did not remove Java since it is surely current as I just downloaded it a couple days ago.

Before I started following the directions verbatim, I sinned and did the following:
-Ran HijackThis and removed a malware entry.
-Ran ComboFix in safe mode w/o Recovery console. This log is included in the reply below as ComboFixBAD.txt

I realized afterwards that doing that was STUPID and a waste of time. So i went back and followed all the README directions verbatim. The resulting logs are included as:
    -ComboFix.txt
    -MGlogs.zip
    -SASlog.txt

SAS kept getting stuck (not blue screen, just literally locking up) while scanning a few really old hard drives so I finally gave up and had it scan only C:\. I figured a scan of C: was better than no scan at all.

At the moment, my antivirus and subsequent rescans of SAS do not seem to catch any more Is my computer clean finally? :confused:confused

This is the Combofix result I ran before I started following instructions in the README. This was ran PRIOR to the combofix log posted above.

If you haven't already, please disable the Guest account in User accounts.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    * Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * Do not change any check box options!!
    * Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the "Input script here:"
    part of the window:

    * Now click the Execute button.
    * Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    * Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    * Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    * A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Avenger.

Be sure to tell us how things are running.

Thanks very much for your assistance.

I disabled AV, merged the fixME.reg , ran the avenger, and I attach the logs of it and the new MGlogs.zip.

When I checked the Guest user account, it said it was "off".

I do not notice any signs of infection but then again that could just mean it's incognito.

    Please advise.

Looks good......let's do some cleaning from the scans:

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

If you do get a success message, then it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommed you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significan amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we used Pocket Killbox during your cleanup, do the below

      * Run Pocket Killbox and select File, Cleanup, Delete All Backups
    3. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

      • Delete the C:\combo-fix folder from combofix.

    4. If we had you run Avenger, you can delete all files related to Avenger now.
    5. If we had you run RenV.exe, you can delete it and the Log.txt file on your Desktop.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    8. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    9. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    10. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    11. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning steps in the READ ME for your Window version and see the steps to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    12. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
