Followed instructions - STILL getting IE popups!

    Hi all,

Newbie here, but I tried to do a bunch of reading/searching before posting my question. I went thru the steps in the initial readme (http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407), I've attached BitDefender and HJT logs as instructed.

The basic problem is that, using firefox as my browser, I get IE ads that popup when surfing the web. Only seems to happen when I'm actually surfing the net, and seems to happen across any/all sites. Things like WinFixer, 888.com, etc. VERY annoying as most tools aren't saying anything is wrong (safe bitdefender, see log below).

Any and All help/direction is very appreciated, thanks!!

PS. For whatever reason, I cannot attach my hijack log via manage attachments (no idea why, it times out, but I can attach my BitDefender file). So I've cut/pasted the contents in this message below. Apologies for the inconvenience.

    Inline log attached!

Download L2MeFix Tool and save it where you will be able to find it.

Please print out these instructions now or save locally so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

    Exit Browsers now before continuing

Please move the L2MeFix Tool to your Desktop and DoubleClick l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix Folder on your Desktop. DoubleClick l2mfix.bat and Type 1 and ENTER to select Option #1 for Run Find Log . Allow it as much time as it needs to run until NotePad opens with a log. Save this log. You will need to post this log back here later when you come back.
Next DoubleClick l2mfix.bat and type 2 and ENTER to select option #2 for Run Fix. Then, press any key to Reboot your machine.

Your computer will go crazy for a bit, but just let it run. It should eventually spit out a log in Notepad. Please also attach this log to your next message.

Now open your browser and come back here and post the above two logs as attachments to your message. Also indicate your current status.

NOTE: Please do not run any other options or files in the l2mfix Folder!

    bjgarrick,

thanks for the initial help. I followed your instructions and generated both the report.txt and log.txt files, which are attached below. FYI, I'm still getting the IE popups. (888.com, tagworld, alternate search results....all in IE windows...while using Firefox and browsing sites like yahoo, espn, wall street journal, etc.)

thanks again for the help, what next??

    bjgarrick,

I ran ewido in safe mode (took almost 2 hours!). All it found was 13 cookies that it cleaned. :( I've attached the log, and I ran HJT again, so let me know if I should post that updated log.

FYI, still getting popups. They aren't on every page view, just randomly. Like when I search, i get "additional search results".

    Download AproposFix by Swandog46

Save it to your desktop or to another folder of its own, but do NOT run it yet!

Now reboot your computer in Safe Mode! (You must be in safe mode or this fix will not work.)

Once in Safe Mode, double-click aproposfix.exe which will give you a chice of where to unzip/install the program to). This is called the Destination folder in the window that popsup. So either install it to the Desktop or the folder where you downloaded the aproposfix.exe file to. It will create a new folder named aproposfix. Open the aproposfix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to run the fix. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file that has been created in the aproposfix folder.

Ok, here is the log from aproposfix and a new hijack this log...I've been browsing around for a few minutes and no popups yet!! Am I cured??

Once again, I can't seem to attach HJT's log, so I'm posting here:

    Download Pocket KillBox
    (Don't run it yet)

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    Ewido

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [iglro7n1] C:\WINDOWS\system32\iglro7n1.exe

    O9 - Extra button: ComcastHSI - {669B269B-0D4E-41FB-A3D8-FD67CA94F646} - http://www.comcast.net/ (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: Support - {8828075D-D097-4055-AA02-2DBFA9D85E8A} - http://www.comcastsupport.com/ (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: Help - {97809617-3937-4F84-B335-9BB05EF1A8D4} - http://online.comcast.net/help/ (file missing)

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NOW:
Please boot into Safe Mode with the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders Enabled

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner to clean up cookies and temp files.

Run full scans with Ad-Aware SE & Spybot S&D and have both programs fix what they find.
Note: Remember to get all updates before doing the scans.

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

    Locate PocketKillbox
(Procede with this step even if they do not show in blue)

Now, Copy and Paste C:\WINDOWS\system32\iglro7n1.exe into the box – If it exists, it will show up in Blue. Check the option to Delete on Reboot and Click the Red X and Yes to the confirmation message. A message will ask if you want to reboot now – Click YES and allow your PC to reboot.

    • If you get an error message about Pending Operations, just reboot your computer manually.
After you complete the above, procede with the below...

    Download WinPFind
