Hi, thank you kindly in advance for any help assistance you can provide. I am somewhat of a novice so please bare with me.

    Problem:
1.) Any communication device I have/had like YMessenger was disconnecting and then reconnecting when I tried to send a message. The problem grew to where I could log on but it would seem to be "bogged down" (cursor barely move) and not ever become operational
2.) While online when I switch pages a "work offline" window pops up saying I am working offline when I know I am connected - however the system treats me like I am not connected to inet. This is not resolved by going to FILE>unchecking work offline, as I the problem regenerates.

I first noticed the problem with Yahoo Messenger. I uninstalled then re-installed multiple times. Whatever my problem is....it regenerates.

Also, I was not able to "follow the instructions" to a tee because I couldn't work in safe mode b/c it wasn't taking me to the desktop where all the downloaded spybot programs were (on a puter w/ 2 desktops).

    I have Windows 98 system.

The hijack log is attached. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you kindly!

Oh, guess I didn't run through all the instructions. Sorry! Just out of frustration and using the guide on the hijack this tutorial I started deleting some files and the problem is now fixed. It is a tribute to the wealth of info. on this site that such a novice can end up fixing their problem. In case someone else has a like problem, the files I deleted were:

    -O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [LoadPowerProfile] Rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,LoadCurrentPwrScheme
    -O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime
    -O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Yahoo! Pager] C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\ypager.exe -quiet

None of those are malware. And you probably should not have removed the first one:
powrprof.dll library contains functions for Microsoft Windows Power Management Configuration Tools. Power management specifics such as monitor shut-off, system standby, etc. Associated with power management and is listed twice. Loads your selected power scheme. May not be required - depends upon whether you modify the default Control Panel -> Power Options settings

qttask.exe is not a need process to load at startup. It is for QuickTime. But I doubt it cause your problem.

ypager.exe on the otherhand is related to Yahoo and perhaps was part of your problem.
