    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

You need to run the below procedure and then attach the smitfiles.txt log:

    SpywareQuake & SpyFalcon Removal Procedure

Then also attach a new HJT log and let me know if there is any change to your problems.

Is your copy of SpySweeper a paid version?

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. Yes, my copy of Spy Sweeper is a paid (registered) version. I updated my subscription after my pc got infected (valuable lesson learned - should've updated about six months ago). It actually cleaned out a lot of the junk on my pc but I guess it didn't catch everything. I'll run the SpywareQuake procedure and let you know what happens.

Okay, then uninstall Windows Defender and make sure to keep Spy Sweeper updated!

Make sure you attach the two logs requested when you finish!

    chaslang...YOU ARE THE MAN!!!

I've got my homepage back so I think my pc is clean now. I didn't see any of the files listed when I got to this step...

...but I continued to go through all the steps as you instructed, rebooted in Normal Mode, connected to the internet and "voila", my homepage is back.

I'm not too good at reading the .txt logs so there may be some residual stuff still on my pc but everything seems to be working fine now. Thanks!

Okay looking better but we have more to do. And one item is cause for alarm. Spybuddy.

Is the below R0 line valid (that is, you chose this start page):
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.click2houston.com

If not, then added it to the below list of things to fix with HJT.

Before continuing with the below. You will have to shutdown SpySweeper or it may block the changes. Also when you reboot or restart Spy Sweeper, it is going to notice the changes that occurred and will complain. You must approve/accept the changes or the fixes will not work.

Make sure viewing of hidden files is enabled (per the tutorial).

Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [1Win32Cfg] C:\Program Files\ExploreAnywhere\SpyBuddy\SpyBuddy.exe

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.
Boot into safe mode and use Windows Explorer to delete:
    C:\Program Files\ExploreAnywhere <--- the whole folder

If you get an error when deleting a file. Right click on the file and check to see if the read only attribute is checked. If it is, uncheck it and try again. Other wise open Task Manager and kill the process if running then delete the file.

Note: If Spy Sweeper restarted when you booted in safe mode, shut it down now before continuing.

Now if running Win XP goto c:\windows\Prefetch and delete all files in this folder.
Now run Ccleaner (installed while running the READ ME FIRST).

Now we need to Reset Web Settings:
    1. If you have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, goto step 2. If not, skip to step 3.
    2. Now right click on your desktop Internet Explorer icon and select Properties. Then click the Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK. Then skip step 3.
    3. If you do not have an Internet Explorer icon on your Desktop, click Start, Control Panel (for some systems it may be Start, Settings, Control Panel), Internet Options, Programs tab and then click "Reset Web Settings". Now go back to the General tab and set your home page address to something useful like www.majorgeeks.com. Click Apply. Click Delete Cookies, Click Delete Files and select Delete all Offline content too, Click OK. When it finishes Click OK.
Now reboot in normal mode and post a new HJT log.

Make sure you tell me how things are working now.

Reminder Note: Once we have determined you are malware free you will need to disable System Restore, reboot, and re-enable system restore per step 1 of the READ & RUN ME. This only applies to if using WinXP or WinMe.

 WOW!!! Looks like I've got a bunch of phone calls to make! OK! Here's my new HJT log...how am I lookin'?
BTW...http://click2houston.com is a valid website. (Local news station site here in Houston)

Your log is clean. If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to go back to step 1 of the READ & RUN ME to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points. Then reboot and enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

After that, you should work thru the below link:
