I've actually done the steps one full time, and up to the online scanners the second time.

A little history: My cable connection has been sporadic for the past two weeks, Comcast says it's not the modem. If I set the TCP/IP configuration to automatic, sometimes (most times) I get an IP of 192.168.100.2 with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255. Changing the settings manually sometimes helps, then I'll lose my connection again. At one point, I had a connection, but it took hours to go anywhere...in three different browsers, or an IRC client, or even FTP. Reinstalling the network card fixed that, but now my connection is back to sporadic. I don't have a router, it's just a simple Surfboard modem.

The various scans found C:\Windows\Cursors\fontac.dll, which I was finally able to remove. I also fixed everything the scans told me to fix. Yesterday morning, I seemed to be humming along just fine, but I locked down the connection just to be safe. When I got home from work, you guessed it, no connection. I rebooted back into safe mode with networking, unplugged my cable, and started the process all over again.

Most of these scans have come back clean or with minor problems (which I fixed), but I couldn't get a connection in safe mode, so rebooted in normal mode so I could once again tweak the settings and get online for help. I haven't done the online scanners yet.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be greatly appreciated.

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

In order to get help, you must complete ALL steps in the READ & RUN ME exactly as requested. That includes running the two online scanners in steps 6 and attaching their logs. Then complete step 7 exactly as written and attach a HijackThis log.
