Footers in Word 2000 SP3

What setting is it that makes Word 2000 update the filename and the date when they are inserted into the “footer” area of a document? When I use a shell document and change the filename I know it and the new date should be reflected in the footer but the filename and the date are remaining the same and using the filename and the date as it was originally created. How can I fix this? It works properly on one machine but not on another so I know I must have some option set differently. Both are Word 2000 SP3 and they both have the same "Normal.dot" but some option must be set differently and I can't seem to find it.

    Thanks.

Update fields to display the latest information
If new information becomes available, you can update a field to produce new field results.

To update a single field, click the field or the field results, and then press F9.
To update all fields in a document, click Select All on the Edit menu, and then press F9.

Tip You can update all fields in a document each time you print it. Click Options on the Tools menu, click the Print tab, and then select the Update fields check box.

I think i know what you mean a setting that does that automatically.
    Ill keep looking :)

Yes, on the one computer it just doesn't update the filename or the date which are both located in the footer.

On the one that works that Update fields check box is not checked. I tried checking it on the computer that doesn't update the filename and date and it didn't help.

There has got to be something I'm not seeing here.

    Thanks.

Yes I'm using the exact same template. I copied it from the computer that works the way I think it should by updating the fields.

I don't know what you mean by "when it asks you when you input a field code to "update automatically" if you did it twice maybe on one you forgot do do this? " I don't recall it ever asking that question when I put the filename and date in the footer section of a document.

    Thanks.
