When I initially open Windows Explorer XP, it opens to

    C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu

I would prefer that it open to

    C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents

I tried the procedures at http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article01-419 by inserting as the target c:\windows\EXPLORER.EXE /n, /e, c:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents

Explorer said that was not a valid target. Help! How can I get my Explorer XP to open in the My Documents window. Thanks!

Right click the icon that you normally use to start Explorer and select Properties.

My window looks like the picture below. The "Start in" box would seem to be the place to put in C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents. See if doing that works.

I replaced "%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%" in the "Start in" box with "C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents". My windows explorer still opens C:\Documents and Settings\User\Start Menu.

    Still need help.

OK. I fixed the problem. I typically start windows explorer by right-clicking Start and selecting windows explorer. That then engaged the windows explorer shortcut sitting in "C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Start Menu\Programs\Accessories", whiched engaged the actual windows explorer application.

My edits (mentioned above) were to the windows explorer shortcut properties. I put copy of that Windows Explorer shortcut in my Quick Launch menu and have been starting windows explorer by left clicking start and using the Windows Explorer shortcut in my Quick Launch menu rather than right clicking start and selecting windows explorer.

Now, when I left click start and select the Windows Explorer shortcut, Windows explorer opens in C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\My Documents.

    Fixed!
