I used this program to successfully recover over a half gig of music.

It worked great on music, hopefully it will just as good on pictures. It can't hurt to try anyway because the program is free to use.

One piece of software I have had success with in similar to your issue is http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/pc_inspector_smart_recovery.html

worth a try as its free, but I would note that you need to recover to a separate HDD or drive any data recovered.
